Chapter 7

I filled a pot with water and placed it on the stove. I let the water boil, getting stuff for the meat sauce ready. Matt was clueless of what to do. He stood off to the side, watching. "Can you open this?" I asked, tossing him to box of pasta. I walked towards the stove and opened it. I motioned for him to pour in. We let them boil.

After 20 minutes, we finished the sauce. I had the cooked pasta in another bowl. Matt poured in the meat sauce as I stirred. We let it sit on the stove. I got out two plates, placing them on the table. Matt grabbed the utensils and napkins. I switched on the TV.

Once the pasta was ready, I brought the bowl over to the table. Matt's eyes widened. "Did we make that?" He said, shocked. I nodded. "Woah." He was amazed. We served ourselves. "1 2 3." He said before we both tried it.

"Mmm. This is amazing." He said. "You can take some home if you'd like." I smiled. "That would be great." He said, before taking another bite. Our attention focused towards the TV. Once it when on commercial break, we'd talk.

"So what else can you make?" He asked. "Just about any food or drink that isn't too complicated I said. " I smiled. "Damn." He emphasized. I giggled. I picked up my plate and placed it in the sink. Matt did the same.

Matt glanced at the clock. It was 7:30. "What time do your people come home?" He asked. "11." I said. "Do you ever get lonely?" He asked. "Sometimes my brother will visit from college or Chelsea will come over. Or I just like to be alone and quiet." I shrugged. He nodded.

"Well, its a getting a bit late and its a school night. I'm gonna get going." He smiled. I nodded. He walked into another room to call his dad to pick up. I sat on the couch, scrolling through my phone. Matt returned, sitting on the couch next to mine. "My dad should be here in a minute."

We watched TV for the remaining time. Matt's phone buzzed. "My ride is outside." He announced. I handed him the spaghetti. "I owe you for the dinner. Thank you." I smiled. "It was fun." I continued. "See you tomorrow, Zoe." Be waved as he stepped out the door. "Bye Matt."

We were half way through the week. Matt and I were great friends. I enjoyed the classes I had with him, which were more than half of mine. I did have other friends but I always found myself around Matt.

I sat in class, waiting for Matt. I doodled in my notebook. The bell rang for first period to start. Strangely, Matt wasn't there. He was probably late. The lesson began anyway.

It was about half way through first period and Matt wasn't there. I was hoping that he would come in any minute now, but he didn't. I felt a little different and empty because he wasn't there. Today was going to be a long day.

I made to lunch to find Taylor sitting with us. Chelsea and Taylor were a couple now. They were the same around me. They didn't show any affection around me. It was like they weren't one in front of me. I liked it. They didn't change. It was how Taylor always had his arm around her or how he sat near her. They were cute.

"Do you guys know where Matt is? He wasn't in class." I asked. "He probably skipped or is sick. He should be back soon." Taylor shrugged. "Why do you care so much, Zoe." Chelsea winked. Taylor raised an eyebrow at me. "What. I was just asking." I defended.

I was correct about the day going by slowly. The classes where Matt was not there, were boring. I missed his silly remarks and comments. I was okay with my classes with Taylor and Chelsea.

The day finally came to an end, as I found Chelsea. We decided to walk home. "So how was your day without Matt?"She asked. "To be honest, it was really boring. " "I bet." She smiled. "I miss him too." Even though he was gone for a day, it felt like a month.

I reached my house. I waved 'bye' to Chelsea as she continued to her house. I went upstairs, setting my bag in my room. I had nothing to do, since I did my homework in my classes. Matt wasn't there to bother me so I got stuff done. I didn't like it.

I remembered Matt writing his number down for me. I copied the number in my phone. I turned on some music as I lied on my bed.

Z: Hi, it's Zoe (:

M: You finally texted me! YAY

Z: Hahaha

M: You miss me at school? (;

Z: Nah, I actually got work done. Where were you anyways?

M: Wasn't feeling too good today :(

Z: Aw.

M: I'm face time you (:

Z: Alright (:

I answered Matt's face time call as he appeared on my screen. We talked for hours. Both of us had nothing better to do. He was sick and I was alone.

Eventually he had to go and he said goodbye. This left me alone. Chelsea had gone out for dinner and Taylor was doing homework. I decided to shower.

Once I finished my shower, I decided to read a little. Opened up my book and started to pick up reading. I really couldn't get much reading done. My phone kept beeping from getting texts from Matt.

I ended texting Matt all night long about pointless things. It was fun, I guess. I was getting tired and texted him goodnight. He did the same as I put my phone up. Well that was quite a night. I quickly drifted off to sleep.
