Amber let out a scream and opened her eyes. Her scream ended abruptly as she looked around and saw she was in the circle room again. She looked around for the man who had carried her but she couldn’t see him anywhere. She looked at the doors in front of her. Tears filled her eyes as she looked at the green door. It was the color of ash and looked burned. The memories replayed in her head; Emma’s face smashed in, Chalet and John’s heads hanging from Veronica’s hands. Veronica’s twisted smile and then the man with purple eyes. She shuttered and hugged herself. She pushed back all the thoughts. It didn’t make matters better if she dwelled on painful memories.

She looked up and the blue door caught her eye. The shape of a diamond pressed into it. She stood up and walked over to it, touching the symbol with her hand. As she did sweet music filled her ears. It sounds distant and sad, but happy at the same time. She pulled her hand back and the music stopped. She reached for the door handle and it turned easily. She took a deep breath and pushed, letting the door open slowly.

As the door opened all the way she looked in and saw a lovely midnight garden. Beautiful blew trees that curled in interesting shapes and sparkling blue flowers on either side of a small stone path. The entire world had a tent of blue, and as she stepped in she saw that her own skin tented too. It was breath taking. The green door had been sweet and warm, but this world gave off a dark, but romantic feel. She wandered father into the world admiring all the lovely sights.

A black fence was along another stone path that turned to the left. She decided she would follow it. She ran her fingers along the cool metal, and she smiled. All memories of the green world faded as she explored this new wonder. She heard a childish giggle and turned around. But no one was there. Another giggled came in front of her and she spun around quickly to see someone run down the path.

“Wait!” she called and followed the giggles.

“Here we go! Here we go! So much to see, so far to go,” sang the voice. She could see the person in front of her. It was a small child with short brown black hair, dressed in an interesting outfit with stars and stripes on it. It was almost as if the child might have belonged to the circus.

“Where are you leading me?” Amber called up to the child. The child turned and she saw it was a girl, a charming smile on her lips, and electric blue eyes. A light blue star was painted on her cheek.

“Why to the Midnight Circus of course,” she giggled and began to skip down the trail. Amber followed her as best she could. Soon she heard laughter and more voices. The girl turned sharply to the right. When amber turned her eyes widened in amazement. Large color full circus tents all striped with every shade of blue. She stood their soaking it all it. The blue lights, the strange music. People walked up and down the rows of tents. Men, women, children all different ages, and everywhere; it was as if she was in a trance her legs moved on their own and she headed heart full of wonder to see what was inside the tents.

She walked into the street in between the tents. Her eyes moved from colorful tent to colorful tent. All the wonders were absorbed into her brain. Something warm and small slipped into her hand. She looked down to see a little boy holding her hand. He had black hair cut to make a jagged uneven look, and he had bangs that covered his eyes. He looked up and smiled at her. The smile seemed to be a little off. Something was wrong with the boy, but she couldn’t place what it was. He tugged on her hand still smiling.

“Do you want to see what’s inside them?” he asked in a timid happy voice, but it seemed a bit strained.

“Can I?” Amber asked. His smile widened and he pulled her hand toward the first tent. The strange music still hummed in her ears. He pulled back the tent opening and she walked in. There was a large ring and around the ring were old belchers. The little boy tugged on her arm to follow her. They climbed up onto the bleaches and took a seat, Amber looked around as other people started to file inside and find a spot to sit. The tent was dimly lit, but then a spot light dropped to the ground. A tall man in a decorative coat of blue stepped into the light. His dark blue eyes scanned the crowd and a delighted smile lay on his lips. His dark curly hair was hidden under a top hat. Clapping erupted from the crowed and he bowed low to the ground.
