“Rise,” he chuckled “Rise. You are a magnificent dancer. How long have you been dancing for the royal court? I have not seen you before.” Amber kept her head down.
“Sir..urrr…uh.. Your majesty,” she paused trying to think of something to say. “This is my first day of dancing. I am only a traveler, and have only been here for a day. A dancer spotted me in the crowd and asked if I wanted to dance.” The prince was silent for a while.
“You’re hence,” the woman spoke and her voice was sweet, but laced venom behind every word. “We should be leaving.”
“Ah yes; girl will you dance for me in my palace? As custom foreigners do not have to obey or pay before a month, but I am imploring you to come; I must see you dance again.” His words made her cheeks burn. She heard his feet start to walk away then pause, “girl?”
“Yes?” Amber said looking through her lashes, catching a glimpse of his face.
“What is your name?”
“Amber,” she replied, she turned her head up and their eyes meet again. His eyes again widened in shock, and he held her gaze for a few seconds, before his bride to be cleared her throat and nudged him. He shook himself, and cleared his throat.
“uhm.. Yes. Amber, if you would please come to my palace to dance for Me.” he smiled at her, and she thought her heart would melt. It was the most gorgeous smile she had ever seen; he then turned and left with his wife. Amber stayed down till they both had disappeared from view. Her heart was racing and her cheeks were hot. Emma came running up and hugged her around the neck. Amber stood; bring Emma up into her arms. The little girl yawned and snuggled her head into the crook of Amber’s neck. She knew it was late. Most likely past one. She turned to see Chalet and John walking up to her, smiling.
“Shall we find a place to stay for the night?” John asked. Amber nodded, and then let out a small yawn. She was dead tired. Amber fell into the warm bed, and looked up at the roof.
“This was the best dream ever,” she whispered to herself. I will forever visit this dream. She slowly drifted off to sleep.
Something beeped. Amber rolled over moaning softly. The beep came again. It was her phone. Her eyes shot open and she sat up. She was in her room on the…floor? She looked to her bed and saw the sheets a mess. She giggled, remembering her dream; must have danced in my sleep. Her phone went off again, and she fumbled in her pockets till she found it, she checked the screen that read: Rocky. She pressed the answer button.
“Hello?” she said.,
“Alice,” came Rocky’s voice from the other side. “How was it?” Amber smiled at the thought of the prince ‘I must see you dance again’.
“It was amazing…” she breathed lying back down on the floor.
“Oh do tell.” She spent an hour and a half describing the whole thing; the people she met, things she saw, and did. He himmed and hawed through the whole thing letting her know he was still listening. “Wow,” he said, “That sounds pretty amazing… well… for a girl anyway.”
“Hey Rocky what time is it?”
“Five fifteen, I think.”
“Kimmber!” she yelled into the phone. “Shit its gunna takes me an hour to get to her at the Shack.”
“Hey I’ll take you. I’m in the neighborhood and I’ll just swing by. Wait for me at the bottom of the fire escape.”
“Thanks Rocky. For a sleazy drug dealer, you aren’t that bad of a guy.”
“I’ll take that as a complement,” he laughed before hanging up.
When he had said in the neighborhood, he really meant it; a few minutes after she had made it to the bottom of the latter, did is car pull up; a handsome black mustang. He honked the horn and she ran to the passenger side. She opened the door and slid right in.
“Buckle up.” He said.
“Why?”
“Because I have a shit tone of weed in my car and I am not gunna get busted over your unbuckled belt.” Amber huffed but complied. She didn’t want to get pulled over either. As soon as he heard the soft click he hit the gas and speed out of the alley way. It wouldn’t have mattered if she had or hadn’t put on her seat belt, because he was going twice the speed limit. They made it just before six. She undid her seatbelt, and opened the door, stepping out. Before she shut it she leaned in,
“Thanks for the ride,” she said with a smile. He gave a nod and she shut the door.
