Maddeline and Joel were siting at a table of a small coffee place near his house the next morning, hand intertwined on the table and lazy smiles on their lips.

Two coffee mugs rested between them and silence surrounded them, the murmur of the people rushing to get to work barely being registered by the pair.

The waitress setting their plates of food down broke them out of their trance and let go of the others hand so they could eat properly.

"So..." Maddeline finally said after eating in silence for a few minutes.

"So?" Joel smirked at her.

"Are you going to tell me how you managed to convince your father to let you stay here for longer than a couple of weeks?" she asked directly, taking a bite of her food after.

Clearing his throat, he took a deep breath and ran his hands down his pants to clean the traces of sweat.

"I might have told him it was a good place to expand the business..."

"Joel, you already have like to hotels in town..." Maddeline said, raising an eyebrow and looking unimpressed.

"Yes, you are right. But I might have asked to be promoted and told him that I want to be in charge of the hotels here. I might have also mentioned something about wanting to be closer to you..." Joel shrugged, looking down at his food, afraid of her reaction.

Maddeline blushed and quickly grabbed her coffee mug to try and cover her colored cheeks.

"Your father can't stand me," she sighed "he's going to do everything he can to keep you away from me."

"He just doesn't like the fact that your restaurants grew so popular in such a short amount of time and became more popular than his, and I really don't give a fuck about what he says because I want to be with you Smarties." He looked up at her and smiled shyly.

"Are you sure that's what you want? Joel, you know how complicated my past is." She said, voice low and eyes glued to the table.

"I don't care about your past, Maddeline. I know how difficult and how it's back in your life, but I don't really care. I want you, with all the imperfections, all the craziness, all the late nights and early mornings. I want to be with you because I can't get enough of you, because you are this amazing, beautiful and wild thing that came into my life and changed how I saw everything. I even get along with Larkin and I don't even like dogs all that much, but the thing is a part of you, and because of that I like him too." He finished and reached for her hand. "So yes, I am completely sure that this is what I want, you are what I want."

Maddeline stared at Joel for a few minutes in silence, too stunned to do anything other than squeeze his hand.

"Holy fuck." She finally spoke, breaking the silence between them.

"If you don' want to be with me I understand, I really do, I just had to tell you how I feel."

"Shut up Joel," she moved from her seat to the one next to his and pulled him down, crashing her lips into his in an innocent but full of emotion kiss "of course I want to be with you."
