Zach did not like what he was seeing, he did not like it at all. In fact, he was pretty sure he was about to burst a vein.
"Are you okay?" Rebecca asked, running one hand up his arm and laying it against his forehead checking his temperature. "You don't feel warm." She mumbled.
"I'm fine, I just saw... something." He shrugged, holding her hand in his and kissing it.
"Maddeline, right?"
"What do you mean? Maddeline has nothing to do with this." He scoffed, looking away from her.
"I saw the way you were looking at her, the way you couldn't even pronounce a word while they stood here." She simply said. "I know you still like her, and it's okay. You've been through a lot together."
Looking down at Rebecca, Zach couldn't help but be stunned at her understanding of the situation, and he couldn't feel guiltier for having such an amazing girl by his side and not being able to let go of the past.
"I'm sorry, Becca. She just looked so much like she did before. The dark hair, sparkling eyes, pink lips..." he cut himself, silencing his rant. "I'm sorry."
"Honestly Zach, I understand, you were really close and deep down you are still in love with her. I get it, really. Maybe you should just try and talk to her, try to get her back..."
"What are you saying, Becca?" Zac looked confused. "I'm with you, I like you."
Rebecca laughed and hit him in the back of the head, making him wince.
"Seriously Zach? You like me, but you're in love with her. Do something about it. At least one of us should get happiness out of this." She said, tears clearly glistening in her eyes.
Zach pulled her to him, hugging her tightly and burying his head in her neck, hiding his own tears.
"Thank you, Becca. You are amazing. You'll find someone that loves you just as much as you deserve." He kissed her head before turning and walking away.
With tears still in her eyes, she watched as he moved away from her and made his way onto de crowded dance floor, where Maddeline had disappeared to with Joel after their encounter, knowing that Zach would be, for the first time, fighting for what he truly wanted, for who he truly loved.
