Zach held Maddeline's hand closer to his body, tightening his fingers around hers.
"Please, lower your voice," Zach asked, voice low and shaky.
"Why would I lower my voice? This is absolutely crazy! My girlfriend is in a hospital bed, unconscious, and I had to be informed through television." Joel kept on screaming at Zach. "And would you let go of my girlfriend's hand?"
Joel slid a hand down his face, trying to gain some composure, before walking further into the room until he was standing next to Maddeline's bed.
"What happened to her?" Joel asked, this time without raising his voice, looking up from Maddeline's pale face to Zach, who sat across from him. "And why are you still holding her hand?"
"Well, I'm holding her hand and I'm not letting go anytime soon, so just shut up about that." Zach let out an exasperated sigh. "Now, for the what happened part, something exploded at the discotheque, but you probably knew that from the news, the thing is, I was passing by and the firefighters had yet to take her out of the building, so I took matters into my own hands and got her out of there, and then rode in the ambulance with her to the hospital."
"You went into the building after it exploded?" Joel asked with shock etched on his face.
"Yes."
"Why would you do that?"
"Because Maddeline was inside..."
"There were professionals there, to get her out, you didn't need to go running inside!"
"Of course I did! I love Maddeline, I would jump into a fire hurricane for her." Zach admitted.
Joel, as well as the other men standing in the room, stared at Zach, in surprise, not quite believing what he had just admitted to them.
"You love her?" Joel asked.
"Yes. I do. I have, for a very long time." Zach shrugged.
"You do realise she is currently in a relationship with me?"
"I am aware of that. Are you aware that she still wears the engagement ring I gave to her?"
"No she doesn't, Maddeline doesn't like wearing rings." Joel shook his head, fingers reaching out to touch Maddeline's hand.
"I know that, and that's why she wears it on a necklace." Zach reached up to retrieve the necklace from inside Maddeline's hospital gown. "See? It even has an inscription on the inside."
Joel reached over Maddeline's body and took the ring out of Zack's hand so he could analyse it better.
"Until we're old and crazy?" Joel read, looking up at Zack, only to find him watching Maddeline. "Why?"
"Why until we're old and crazy?" Zach laughed to himself. "Well, for starters, she really liked the song, and I found it very fitting. I want to be with her until we are old and crazy until we both have grey hair until I can't even remember my own name, but I'll remember her's, I'll always remember her..."
Coughing. Maddeline was coughing.
Quickly, Zach reached her and lifted her up slightly and gave her some water.
"Calm down love, everything is fine," Zach said soothingly, as he kept on holding her up until Josh took initiative to pull the bed up.
"What happened? Why am I in the hospital?" Maddeline asked, looking around disorientedly.
"Hey, it's okay. You're fine, everything is going to be just fine. Just relax darling." Zach said as he held her face so she would look at him.
Maddeline's accelerated breath started to slow down and she reached up to touch Zach's face with shaking fingers.
"Why are you here? You left..." She said weakly.
"Because I love you."
