A week had passed since the Joel incident, and neither Maddeline or Zach spoke of it again.
Still, even though Maddeline seemed fine with the breakup, only being a little bit down on the first days, Zach couldn't help but worry.
They were all having dinner together, as they had done every day since Maddeline moved in. They talked, shared stories and ideas, it was barely impossible to even hear the television they always left on in the other room. But that night, for some reason, between one word and the next, they heard her name coming from the news channel it had been left on.
"... because apparently, she was only with Joel Dawson as a way of attracting the band leader's attention." the woman on the television said.
"I was what?!" Maddeline screeched, furious.
"Band leader my ass!" mumbled Gabe, as all eyes turned to Maddeline.
"It seems the mystery of Zachary Adams secret lover has, once and for all, been disclosed." She finished.
As the channel moved on into some other (probably more important news than a band's conquests) news, the table was silent for once, no one really knowing what to say about what had just been said.
"God, I'm going to break his fucking face," Maddeline broke the silence, at last, making all the man around her laugh at her comment.
"Come on Maddie, you would need a chair to reach..." Nate tried to lighten the mood, bumping her with his shoulder.
"That's the funny part, you see. You all think I'm joking, but I'll make him regret everything he did, and oh, will it taste like fucking cotton candy when I do." She was determined, she would make Joel swallow all the bad things he had said about her and her friends.
The boys thought she was simply enraged at the moment, but that as soon as she cooled off, she would let it go, but Josh knew better, Josh knew ever since the Zach incident a few years back she had learned how to unleash her rage, and they were all about to find that out too, probably in a not so pleasant way.
Joel was not ready for what he had unleashed.
