Twelve Years Before
"Lukie Pookie! Where are you? I give up, hide and seek isn't my game."
"Would you stop calling me that?!"
As I was walking along the field, Luke jumped out of a bush and knocked me down. He was laying over me in the coarse dirt, staring into my face with his vibrant blue eyes, mine are bright green. Time seemed frozen. His hair, sticking to his sweaty face. We stayed like that for a few moments.
"Sorry, Katiara. Didn't mean to knock you down." Luke got up and reached his hand out signaling for me to grab it so he could help me up. I grabbed it. We were both covered in dirt.
"Luke! My mother will be mad! She made this shirt yesterday for me and now it's all dirty!" I gave him a stern look.
"What, Katiara? You're afraid to get a shirt dirty? You want to be the most powerful person in the galaxy and you're afraid that you will get in trouble because of a dirty shirt? Come on, you gotta have some fun once in a while!" He smiled. Not just a simple smile with hardly any meaning, but with all the meaning in the galaxy. His smile was saying,"Come on! Be free for once. What's life with no adventure..." and so much more. His smile always said it all.
He brushed off the dirt on my shirt, but not his. "Hey, we should probably head back home now. It's getting dark," we looked in the sky. It wasn't dark at all, but I knew what he really meant, we were lost and needed to head back to the camp now.
"Luke, are we lost? Do you know where we are? We better not cause people to send out other people to look for us people," my voice started to tremble. "No, Katiara. I know this place perfectly! I remember that we came down this path, and... and-" he trailed off into a quiet, scared tone.
"LUKE! YOU PROMISED ME YOU WOULD REMEMBER!" I screamed so loud that my mother probably could've heard me, even from miles away. Lukes face got to a burning red tone.
"I know, I know. We will figure it out, I promise!" Yet another promise that will be broken. "Come on. We should leave now." This was both our first visit to Aldernaan.
At that very moment, I realized what anxiety was, well, more than anxiety. You could say I could've found my weakness. My heart, like a man stuck in a trunk, was pounding faster than ever. Who knows where we could be? We could die here together, and our bodies could never be found. This was a planet that we just recently found out about. We didn't know where everything was or where our camp had been. My father and Lukes uncle just came here for a moisture experiment. Death. Throughout the day we just walked, talked, played, rested, and repeated. We didn't notice where we were going, we just ran. My face, like a ripe fruit. Bright red. My eyes, blurry and stinging. My head, like I spun around for an hour and just now stopped. I remember Luke's mouth saying the words,"Katiara, please! Not now!"
Every sight, every sound, every smell...it all faded to darkness.
