Chapter 11- The Truth Part 1

Max's POV

"HURRY UP RAFAEL! THEY'RE GOING TO COME BACK ANY SECOND- put that down" Madzie says and shrieks. Clang. I drop my book and rush into the kitchen where Madzie is crouched covering her head and stuck in a corner and pan on the floor next to her.

I turn to Rafael who is staring at his hand as if it was diseased. I slowly walk over to Madzie and help her up. "Get out Madzie" I say to her and she snaps her eyes towards me, pushing her behind me, I watch as Rafael slides down onto his knees. Madzie looks over my shoulder at him and he stays there.

"Madzie go find Uncle Jace or someone. Get out of this room. Now" I say and she runs out. Rafael snaps his head up in her direction.

"She's crying. I used my rune. I didn't mean to do that.. Max.. What's wrong with me?" Rafeal says quietly and looks at his hands. I slowly walk over to him and he backs away.

"Stay away from me Max. I don't want to hurt you" He says and looks up at me. He has tears in his eyes. I stop in my tracks and look at him. I've never seen my big brother like this before.

Slowly kneeling, I reach out to him. I hold out my hand to him and he slowly takes it. We hear foots steps rushing into the hotel room as he lets me touch him. He looks around terrified. I tighten my hold on him. Like he used to do with me when we were little and I was scared of something.

"Don't worry Rafeal. I'm here. Your safe. There's nothing to be afraid off. Trust me. I'll protect you" I say using the same words he used on me. Suddenly we aren't alone in the kitchen anymore. Papa and Dad have joined us. I look over at them as they watch us.

"Something is wrong with me Max.." He says and I look back over at him. "There's nothing wrong with you Rafael. You just lost your temper this time. Don't worry I'm here. Papa and Dad are here to. Your safe. Believe me your safe now" I tell him and he tightens his grip on my hand.

Papa and Dad slowly walk towards us with caution. Rafael looks at them. They see the tears in his eyes to as he looks at them. After a minute he looks away. "I'm sorry I didn't mean to. I'm sorry" He says in between sobs. Papa slowly reaches towards him Rafael pushes his hands away with his free hand.

"Don't. I'll hurt you" He says. I feel his grip on me loosen and he then pushes my hand away to. He slowly backs away from me again and I can't help but start to cry. What's wrong with him? Why is he suddenly so afraid? What's happened with my big brother?

Dad slowly moves towards him. "Raph. It's okay. It's just me. You won't hurt me okay? Just let me hold on to you sweetie. Come to me. Don't worry I won't hurt you. I'm your dad, I'm here to help you son. Come" Dad says and Raph stays put, Dad holds out his arms but nothing happens. I slowly turn away to hide my tears but Papa notices. He walks towards me and hugs me.

"Shhh. It's gonna be okay. Don't cry, he's fine. Just a little scared. Come don't look back just come with me to your room" He says and he helps me up and walks me to my room. He sits me down on the bed as we hear dad in the kitchen trying to talk Raph into calming down. Suddenly Dad's voice is laced with panic and worry.

Papa looks at me and closes the door on his way out. "Stay here and don't move Max. I mean it. This is not something I want you to see. Stay here" He tells me and then he's gone. I hear dads panicked voice fill the airs empty place.

Alec's POV

Rafael holds up a knife. I look at his eyes and try to find the happy boy I saw just yesterday. "Rafael, sweetie put down the knife. It's okay no one's gonna hurt you. Put the knife down" I say to him slowly and he stares at me as he slowly puts the knife somewhere on the counter and slowly moves it far away from his reach.

"Dad... I don't want to hurt anyone..." Rafael tells me and I nod "I know son. Just come over here to us okay? Your not going to hurt us.. I promise" I say reaching out to him again slowly as Magnus joins me.

He looks at Magnus "I'm sorry" He says and Magnus nods. "It's okay son. Just let us help you okay? We promise nothings going to happen. Just come to us" Magnus says and Rafael looks at us softly. He slowly reaches for us.

"That's it son. That's it" I say and finally grab his body as he fall's into my arms. I hold on to him tightly and rub his head and murmur in his ear. I kiss his head which is now sweating and hold on to his shaking body. I look at Magnus who is holding him self up on the counter. I let out a breath I was holding and look away.

I feel Rafael's tears hit my shirt and I continue to comfort him. "It's okay son. We're here. Shhh. It's okay, your okay" I say to him softly. After a few minutes we hear footsteps and slowly Angel comes into view. She gasps at the sight of me and Rafael stuck together on the floor.

"Magnus. I saw this. I tried to warn them" She says and my head snaps back towards her. "Let's not discuss the fate you saw of my son here. Let's take him somewhere familiar. Like home. I'll see you back at my apartment soon" Magnus says and she nods.

She leaves and suddenly Rafal goes limp against me. I panic for a few seconds but then sense he's just gone to sleep. I pick him up and walk through the portal. I land back at home with my son in my arms. I look around and decide to put him in his room.

I lay him down in bed and tuck his arms in tightly. I sit next to him and wait as the others appear somewhere else in the house. I watch him and wonder what broke my little soilder. I look at his sweet soft face.

I sit there and wonder who took my son from me.. And why?
