"Okay since you all are in American Law we're gonna be starting a project actually about law and not just the history about it; though that will be a portion of it" The teacher rose from his desk and wrote Criminal Justice on the white board with the squeakiest blue marker. He let it fall to the floor, his eyes fixated on to me, I swallowed as I felt my palm moisten.

"Castiel! Definition, now" He winked at me because he knew I'd know but I hated how he always made me show off in front of everyone else, makes me look like a douche.

"Criminal justice is the system of practices and institutions of governments directed at upholding social control, deterring and mitigating crime, or sanctioning those who violate laws with criminal penalties and rehabilitation efforts." I answered, my voice getting quieter with each word I spoke. I felt small, and that everyone in the room hated me. In a few months I'll be done of high school so that's good I guess except I still have no fucking clue what I want to do with my life.

"May we have a simpler version of that, please?" The teacher laughed casually and looked around the class. I exhaled in annoyance and I really hope he didn't hear me; my eyes gazed upward at him and he was still smiling, edging me to say it so I guess he didn't hear me.

"The system of law enforcement, i-involving police, lawyers, c-courts, and corrections, used for all stages of criminal proceedings and puh-punishment." Dammit.

"Someone's got a stuh-stuh-stutter!?" Blake roared with laughter from the back of the class and eventually his friends all joined in even though it wasn't that funny.

"That's not funny" Another voice added and a couldn't tell who it was. So I turned around in my seat to look behind me and turns out I wasn't the only one curious because a lot of other's looked too.

"Well then why do I hear laughter?" Blake snapped at who I now know was Dean Winchester speaking to him.

"Because you're a dictator and if they didn't laugh your insecure little ass would beat them senseless cause you need reassurance every time you say something, poor wittle baybeee" Dean stretched out the "ee" and that got few chuckles but a lot of "oooooh"'s cause damn he roasted him senseless. The corners of my mouth stretched into a grinn as I smiled secretly to myself.

"You fuc-"

"That's enough! Boys. Everyone turn around, I haven't gotten to the best part of the lesson," The teacher demanded and everyone listened. Blake scoffed to himself while Dean leaned back smug and at ease.
"You all will be doing a presentation. There's two options, option A is you can pick a person who was done very wrong but the criminal justice system or, option B is you can pick one historical figure who impacted the criminal justice system in either a negative or positive way. This will be done in partners..." The teacher paused as multiple students fist pumped and various victorious "Yes's" were heard about the room.

People already began picking their partners as the buzzing of different conversations became louder. I sat alone in silence. "Sorry to burst your bubbles but I will be picking the partners" With those words the teacher spoke, the soul and morale to do this project broke and shattered in every student by the sounds of groans and heads landing on desks in sheer disappointment.

"Come on, Donny. Why can't you let us pick?" Blake whined, earning a glare from the teacher.

"Because last time most people didn't work and it's Mr. Calvin to you, Blake"

Blake wasn't having a good day. Yet I could honestly not give less of a shit. He's ruined plenty of my days. A few days ago he pulled the classic take the losers binders and throw them all in the toilet. They stole my bag.

Mr. Calvin walked back to his podium at the front of the class and read off the sheet of paper that laid there. "Sarah and Dylan, Blake and Kristen, Lèo and Stephan, Dean and Castiel, Molly and..." His voice faded as I was too focused on how I had to be with Dean. Dean! Of all the fucking people in this class I have to get stuck with him, the slacker. I'll end up doing all the work!

People begun to stand and match up with their partners and I slowly picked up my books and made my way to the back of the class where the messy haired, green eyed, smug smiling boy sat staring at me as I took a seat in the chair I pulled over.

"Listen I'm not gonna be doing all the work, you do your part I do mine; we present and never have to speak to each other again, okay?" My eyes stared him down the way my father stares at me but he didn't budge or look away, he held my stare.

"Of course not! Hey, we're partners in this - partners in crime! We're a team! Get it? Huh? Partners in crime?" He seemed more excited and quirky about the subject than I thought he'd be so I couldn't help but relax a little and smile at him. The way his eyes twinkled were refreshing. They reminded me of a creek in the woods, the water darkened green by the reflection of the trees and stripes of sunlight shining through the thick water. His glistened, unlike mine and other students. Ours were dull but right now I was finally with a partner that didn't hate me and didn't groan when they heard their name paired with mine. Itnwas a wonderful feeling.

"You have a nice twinkle in your eye, it's pretty" Dean smiled.
"W-What?" I stammered in disbelief. Did he really just say that??
"I said you have a pretty twinkle in your eye" He repeated and this time my face burned red as I looked down, breaking the eye contact.
"Thank you" I smiled and looked to the front of the class to see Mr. Calvin staring straight at both of us before quickly taking a sip of his coffee and turning to talk to a student. Weird.

"So I'm thinking option A because the more emotional of a story we pick the more of a chance we have at a better mark. Mr. Calvin will be too busy crying to even bother about or uncrossed T's" Dean explained and that's honestly my strategy every time. I looked back up and tried to catch his eye yet he was staring at my chin and mouth. Butterflies in my stomach fluttered up into my chest where I thought I'd lift off like a rocket ship but I still just sat there and cleared my throat.

"Uh, yes. I was thinking the exact same thing" I smiled, my eyes drifting to his lips.
