Song: Infinity - Niykee Heaton
The shower was running, Kol in it, and I laid in the bed, savoring it all. Cheap hotel sheets covered my hot skin, skin that I could still fill Kol's finger tips on. His scent was on the sheets, the pillowcases, my lips still tingling from his kisses. My nerves were on fire as I replay the events from earlier in my head.
I slowly stumble out of the bed, slipping on my underwear and his shirt, I dig into my pants pockets and grab a packet of cigarettes. I step out on the balcony, the mist cooling my hot skin, I light up, and my nerves start to calm.
I closed my eyes, fingers and toes numb from the night's events. I inhale more smoke, turn around, and lean my back against the railing. I throw my arms and head back, hair cascading down, and smoke tumbling out of my lips. Adrenaline and numbness fought for control over my body as I half way hung off the balcony and the other reminded grounded.
I let the cigarette fall from my fingertips to somewhere unknown and I didn't care. I stand on my tippy-toes, leaning further off the edge.
I should be happy.
Happy that I was finally with Kol, but I felt nothing. Emptiness and numbness, that's all. This wasn't right, nothing how I though any of this to be.
"What are you doing out here?" Kol's voice broke through my thoughts. I plant my feet completely on the ground, stand up right, and Kol in the eyes.
"Go back to her," I didn't want to speak the words, but I did.
"Y/N-"
"I mean it, this isn't right, we're not right." I motion between us. "You belong with Devina, not me."
"If that's true, then why are you falling apart?" He caged my body in between his and the railing, anger radiating off him, his hot breath fanning across my face, hearts pounding in our chest.
"Because people need to fall apart to stand on their feet again." I wanted to cry, but I held it back. "Kol I've leaned on you my entire life, I need to learn how stand on my own, I need to live my life alone. And you have Devina, you don't know how long you have with her, be with her. If or when you and Devina end, living a full life together, and you still want me, then come."
He was still in close proximity, caging me in, and I wanted to crash my lips to his, but I held back.
I needed to regain control, but I was failing miserably.
"If that's right, then why do I still have an effect on you? My touch," he brought a hand up to my cheek, lightly brushing his fingertips down my face to my neck, sending shivers throughout my body. "My voice," I close my eyes, savoring it. "My presence in general."
I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, recovering my composer.
"Kol," I breathe out.
"I want you," his fingers continue their assault by brushing over my lips. "And you want me too."
I jerk my head away from his touch, "My body does, but my mind doesn't."
I look up into his brown eyes, "It's two different things and you know it."
He clinched his jaw and pushed away from me, walking into the hotel room, slightly pulling at his hair. "Then what was that, that happened in this room?"
"A mistake," the words come out harsh and I meant them to, just nowhere near as harsh as they came out, but they're harsh words, you can't say them lightly. "And a moment of weakness."
"Is that all I am to you? A mistake?" I bite my lip, a vain attempt to stop the tears.
"No, you're the best thing that's ever happened in my life, but tonight was a mistake." I wanted to fall off the balcony, I couldn't take saying these words to Kol, but I had to. I watched as he sat on the edge of the bed we fucked in hours ago, stress and hurt taking over his body. He looked defeated and I want to fall off this balcony more than ever as my broken best friend sat there in front of me.
I silently walk into the hotel room, collect my things, and change into my clothes as soon as I do. I grabbed my shoes, not bothering to put them on, and go to the door.
With my hand on the knob, I look over my shoulder at Kol who was still looked at his lap in pain. "I'm so, so sorry."
I pull open the door and walk out, letting the door shut behind me cutting me off from Kol unless he came after me, which I doubt he would. With every step I took towards the elevator, a piece of my heart was left behind, laying on the floor waiting to be stepped on into another piece.
But I held my resolve until I got into the elevator, once I did and the doors shut, I break down in tears.

I sat in a booth in a small café on the corner of some street, waiting for the boyfriend that I cheated on with Kol to arrive.
I was no longer numb, but hollow. It felt as if I was just skin, no insides or bones; empty. I felt more empty by the second as I sat there, looking out the muggy street, hand folded on the table. A table that too, was empty besides my hands, a ketchup bottle, sugar packets, and a salt and pepper shaker.
The table wasn't as empty as me.
And while my body was empty, my mind had stopped working correctly. My body wasn't the only thing hollow, my brain was too.
In all honesty, it didn't even fill like I was in my body, my skin, but as if I was standing at the edge of the booth's table like a waitress, standing there watching as this person falls apart.
Then the bell above the door is ringing and soon a body is seated across from me; a body that belonged to my boyfriend.
"Are you okay?" He asked reaching across from the table, grabbing my hand, but I didn't feel it.
I want to say no, let everything that I just did spill out like a dam breaking because I was inside, but I stayed still not moving a muscle but to blink.
"Not really," My voice: monotone, my nerves were on high even though my body felt hollow; I wanted to throw up.
"What do you mean?"
"Im breaking up with you," I looked down at my hands, not wanting to see the heart broken look on his face.
"Why?" Pain and tears were in his voice.
"Because," I forced myself to look up at him, in the eyes. "I cheated on you and you deserve someone so much better than me."
He was silent, no longer touching me; anger kept him quiet. I reach out for him, but he pulled away, disgusted.
"I'm so sorry," I got up and left, the bell above the door gingling as I did, the hollowness being replaced with numbness as I did.
Not everyone gets happy endings, but Kol was going to get one, he desevered it, along with my ex. So I walk out of the café, single, and ready for whatever hell the world has left to throw at me, alone.
