Suki's PoV:

"You both may now...begin!"

My eyes narrow, and a burning sensation courses through me. Eshima uses my hesitation to conjure water into her palm then hurls it towards me. Fortunately, I jump out of the way just in time. Once I get back to my feet, fire burst from the ground, and I force the spirt's power to combine with my own.

I'm totally gonna owe him after this.

I control the fire to surround her in a seemingly vortex manner. Then I unsheath my sword and approach the fire.

As I get closer, the hissing noise becomes more apparent than before. I smirk in amusement due to the situation.

"Do you really believe that you can put out all this fire?" I sneer, tilting my head ever-so-slightly in the process.

Venom seems to spew from her lips as she growls out, "watch me. I know for a fact that i'm better than you are!"

"Well, you are obviously not smarter since you fell to relize there is no water nearby, while I'm getting my fire from a natural source."

The brunette on the other side of the fire grits her teeth before raising both hands in the air. I smile in victory then control the fire to go back to where it came from and sheath my sword.

Captain Endo steps between us and announces, "due to surrender, Suki Yuhara has won this dual."

Applause erupt around us from all my fellow mages-to-be and the two other captains there. I continue to smile because knowing that they recognize me, gives me a feeling of pride that I've been slowly seeking.

The applause die down some as four hooded figures step towards me. Captain Endo raises an eyebrow at them and steps in front of me, blocking me from their view.

He ask gruffly, "who are you and what do you want?"

The four people lower their hoods, and shock, along with gasps, overcome everyone still watching, including me.

"You all are...the Sages," I gasp.

The one closest to us, a male with pale blue hair and silver eyes who looks close to 16, smiles gently at me and chuckles, "yes, that's us. My name is Tyler Jones. I'm the Sage who's Elemental spirit is water. The guy to my right-" he gestures to the dark blue haired and eyed male who looks to be about 20-" is Raiden Abe. He's the Sage who houses the Elemental-"

"Elemental spirit of lightning!" Raiden finishes, cutting Tyler off.

Tyler rolls his eyes and shakes his head before continuing. "The female to my left is Haruka Hamada. She houses the Elemental spirit of air. The last guy behind me is John Brannon. And of course, he's the one who houses the Elemental spirit of earth."

Haruka looks about 18+ years old with light brown hair and green eyes while John, who has dark brown hair and maroon eyes, looks 24 is the first thing I notice about them

Haruka looks about 18+ years old with light brown hair and green eyes while John, who has dark brown hair and maroon eyes, looks 24 is the first thing I notice about them. I look back at Tyler as Captain Endo asks, "if I may be so blunt as to inquire, just why are the Sages here? Aren't you all supposed to be back in the capital with the Queen?"

John looks exasperated as he sighs out, "we have gotten word of a highly powerful mage-to-be whom might be the next fire Sage."

Dead silence fills the area. Everything seems to stop: breathing, movement, maybe even heartbeats. There's total silence then, all at once, everyone's eyes turn to look at me. My own widen in astonishment, and I look back to the Sages, pleading internally for an answer.

Tyler speaks up, saying, "Suki Yuhara, you might be the next fire Sage. You might even already house the Elemental spirit of fire from what I have already seen."

"Wh-what? No way," I stutter, causing myself to whence in embarrassment.

The four look at me solemnly, and, in the next instance, I feel someone pat my head. I shift my green eyes to look up at my captain who smiles a ghost of a smile down at me. Tears brim my eyes, so I try blinking them away; however, they spill out anyways.

Is he...finally proud of me?

I stagger forward due to a new weight on my back then hear sniffing on my shoulder.

Emiko cries, "ohh, don't cry! When you cry, I cry!"

A smile pulls at the corner of my lips as I regain my balance and hold her up. Jun ruffles my hair suddenly, and Aratani smiles.

When Emiko finally gets off my back, I notice that the other captains had all the other mages-to-be go back to their dorms for the day, leaving only my team and the Sages standing here.

I hesitantly open my mouth and ask, "what happens now?"

Haruka smiles and replies sweetly, "if you'd be so kind to allow us to run some tests on you, than that'll be what happens next. Oh, and don't worry. The tests won't be harmful. I promise."

I slowly nod then look to Captain Endo. He returns my gaze and nods his head in approval. I glance at the rest of my team, and the three give me their approval, too.

I turn my head to look back at the Sages and confirm my reply in words, "I'll do the tests."

Tyler grins, "awesome."
