The Unexpected Phone Call

Chapter 23

Grant POV

"I'm Sandra, I'm Mary's social worker. Is Taylor around?" Sandra asked and I wasn't exactly sure how I should respond considering Taylor wasn't here and I'm the one who's looking after Mary at the moment. I didn't even have the right to look after Mary as I wasn't her carer but Mary didn't want to go with Taylor. I'm looking after Mary as Taylor and I are in a relationship but Sandra doesn't need to know that.

"Sorry, she's actually not here right now. Can I do anything to help?" I asked hiding the fact that Taylor was actually in a completely different state right now. But I knew that if Sandra even looked at any newspaper or magazine then she would find out exactly where Taylor is.

"I need to talk to her regarding a personal matter and I want to check on how Mary is settling in considering it's been a month since I dropped her off" Sandra explained. I knew I should probably mention that she could get in contact with Taylor on her mobile as Taylor always has her mobile on her everywhere she goes.

"I'm sure that you could catch her on her mobile? Or if you would prefer I can take a message and tell her when she gets back?" I ask. I know that it was a partial lie as I would tell Taylor the message when I called her later but that wasn't when she would be back as she doesn't get back till Saturday. But if Sandra preferred to call Taylor herself then that's fine and I'll give her number if Sandra doesn't already have it.

"I don't appear to have her number on file and as it's a personal matter, would you be able to give it to me?" Sandra asked and although I wondered whether this was wise I also knew that Taylor would want to know if something was up with Mary and her living with Taylor.

"Sure, you ready?" I asked as I knew that she might need a piece of paper or something to write the number down on so she could put it on her file later. I read out Taylor's number, Sandra thanked me and hung up to which I couldn't help but wonder what she was actually ringing Taylor about.

My morning was rather uneventful considering all I did was play around on my guitar working out which chords would be best to teach Mary this afternoon. It was something that I was really looking forward to considering that I really wanted to become close to Mary. Besides I also knew that when Mary told her that we were bonding, she would be happy that we're working everything out. Taylor had been hesitant about leaving Mary and I from the beginning when she and I decided that becoming a couple was a good idea. Especially since Mary and Lulu had such a strong friendship and Mary didn't want to ruin that by forming a close bond with me. I still want to be in Lulu's life and have a fatherly relationship with her but somehow I can't see Claire allowing that to happen or at least not anytime soon anyway. I really want to become close with Mary though and I feel that by teaching her the guitar that will start to happen. However by the time lunchtime rolled around I'd decided that I should just go over some of the chords in Taylor's songs as maybe that will cheer me up, I heard my phone buzz signalling a message had come.

T: Hey, Mary has fallen ill at school. Can you go pick her up? I would but I'm not there and Dad can't get to her because of work commitments. Did you get a call from Sandra? I think we need to talk. Love you xxx Taylor texted and I knew that it was probably breaking Taylor that she's so far away from Mary when she's not feeling well but there is nothing that she could do and Mary would want her to stay in LA.

G: I'll go get her and bring her home. I'll probably have to cancel my doctor's appointment but I can always re-schedule. Yeah she called your home number this morning and I directed her to your mobile, what's wrong? I would love to talk later. Love you too xxx I replied and I knew that Mary was my main priority now, if she's sick then its better that she's home then at school. Taylor would be wishing that she was home right now but she's needed in LA and there she will stay. The VMA's would be the first time which Taylor has performed since Mary came to stay with her and whilst she's apart from Mary and I, we're still going to watch the VMA's and we wanted to see Taylor shine on that stage like I've seen her do before.
