Mira felt like she needed to sit down.
She was the next leader of Mandalore?!
How could this even be possible? She wasn't even fully Mandalorian. She was half Jedi after all.
Well technically full Jedi. Sabine had been force sensitive as well.
Zak sat next to her and tried to comfort her.
Satine was thinking very intently for a few moments, when suddenly Obi Wan interrupted.
"Satine? What is it?" He asked.
"Well....Mira is the rightful ruler-that can't be changed, and if the Mandalorians will follow anyone, it'll be the rightful ruler." She paused.
"But the thing is....Mira is a Jedi as well..." she sighed."What does being a Jedi have to do with it?" Zak asked, slightly confused.
"Most Mandalorians only follow pure Mandalorian leaders....Mira being Jedi could interfere." Satine sighed.
Mira looked down sadly.
"Well....can't I just relinquish the rule to you, Duchess? You're alive....most of the people liked you....and you've even got your boyfriend! You could rule just find!" Mira protested.
Obi Wan hid his face at the fact that he was breaking the Jedi code so much right now.
But oh well. Most of the Jedi were dead anyway, and a man who was revived after death, only to see the women he loved, also magically revived from death, deserved a break didn't he?
"Hypothetically....yes. I could rule Mandalore. But I've already done so once. Ruling twice is almost unheard of...and I can't be sure that I'd restore peace." Satine sighed softly.
Mira looked down, and there was a moment of silence.
"Perhaps it's for the best young one, if you were to listen to the Duchess." Obi Wan said, breaking the silence. "From what I've seen I do believe you would be more fitted for ruling Mandalore."
Mira looked up, and stared at them intently.
"How can you ask me to do that?! Ask me to rule an entire planet myself? And not just rule a planet...." she paused for a breath, rolling her eyes, and throwing her arms up in the air, in anger, "Oh no....you want me to rule the entire Mandalorian civilization!"
Satine backed away slightly as Mira nearly got in her face, putting her hands against her chest in a begging sort of gesture.
"I'm a mother! I'm not a warrior! I might have been that way once-but that's not me anymore! I just wanted a simple life with Astrid, Alex-and Zak! That's all....that's all I ever wanted." Mira looked down, backing up, turning away slowly, then looked back up at them, shiny tears now brimming her eyes.
Zak took a step toward her, and gently pulled him toward her, where she buried her face in his shoulder.
She wept softly, as Satine and Obi Wan looked down.
Mira looked up at Zak, who was surprised to see his usual strong wife, now sobbing, and so fragile.
She looked back to the others and pleaded in a desperate voice.
"I can't do this on my own. Please. I need help. Please!" She begged, her voice cracking
Zak flashed back to his parents in law dying.
"Find the duchess. Free Mandalore. Promise me."
The last words Sabine Wren had spoken to her daughter, before she would die.
The words Mira had promised to follow.
"Take care of her."
The last words Ezra Bridger had entrusted Zak with.
All of them, words that could now be broken.
He thought about his training.
He thought of everything he had ever done back at the Rebellion.
He remembered learning about the Mandalorian culture.
His....sister had been Mandalorian.
Of course no one knew he had a sister. She had died when he was first born....well....actually by the hands of a Mandalorian....or so he was told.
His dad had been a Mandalorian, which is why his sister followed that path....but most of the Mandalorians Zak had ever known were lying, and murderers.
But....technically Zak had some Mandalorian blood in him.
He didn't like Mandalorians....but the women standing in front of him was the best women he had ever met. And she was Mandalorian. If this is what she needed, then he was ready to do it.
"I-I'll help you Mira." Zak said suddenly.
Mira looked over, surprised.
"But......you aren't Mandalorian.....Zak?" She asked, raising an eyebrow.
He nodded softly.
"Let me tell you about that later....just.....I'll help you Mira. I won't leave it all to you. Remember your mothers promise. I won't let Mandalore fall, and I won't let you suffer to rule. We'll rule Mandalore together. With Astrid and Alex." He said, hugging Mira tightly.
Mira gasped, hugging Zak, then looking back to the crumbling buildings of Mandalore, and the disrepair it was in.
"We'll restore peace to Mandalore."
She turned to Zak.
"Together." She said, hopefully.
He smiled.
"Together."
Obi Wan and Satine walked up, arm in arm, "And we'll help."
They all gazed out to the Mandalorian streets, and prepared for a new day.
A new dawn.
A new horizon.
A new Mandalore.
That was long and dramatic. Wow. More on Zaks backstory to come 😏
