The next day
Daryl's POV
Well that dick, Negan finally showed up at the gate. He rolled in not long after the weirdos from the junkyard showed up. I don't know why Rick thought we could trust those freaks. They double crossed us, and Jadis even shot Rick. Negan's crew rolled though the gate and tried to take over. They came way too close. If Ezekiel's people and some folks from Hilltop hadn't shown up to help us, we would all have our heads bashed in right now. I guess having a big ol' tiger making tiger chow out of one of your men was not what Negan was planning..We still had a few injuries in addition to Rick. Michonne took a helluva beating, and Rosita was shot too. Our biggest loss was Sasha. Negan brought her in a casket, and somehow along the way she turned. He seemed pretty shocked when he opened the casket and she attacked him. Too bad she didn't succeed in biting him.
Delilah's POV
I was in the infirmary when Negan arrived. I had spent the day before unloading and organizing the new supplies, and making room in the front of the infirmary for the three portable gurneys. As soon as we got word that the Saviors were at the gate, we went into action pulling out what we needed for emergencies, then locking away the hidden supplies. We didn't want to risk losing what we needed to keep people alive if somehow Negan's men got the opportunity to loot.Daryl's POV
At some point during the fight I got slashed across my left upper arm with a knife. I didn't notice it until later when I felt blood dripping off my elbow. Rick was walking around evaluating the damage to the community and noticed my arm. He grabbed my good arm and started pushing me towards the infirmary.I walked into the clinic with Rick in back of me telling me that I wasn't allowed to argue or try'n stitch up the gash on my arm myself. The doctor was standing over Carlos bandaging a wound. She was wearing faded jeans and an old Cheap Trick t-shirt. She had some kinda wrap around her upper body with a strange bundle on her back. I stopped cold when I saw her, and Rick ran smack into my back.
"C'mon Daryl, no backin' outta this now. You're gonna let the lady doctor here stitch up your arm, even if I have ta hold you down myself. She's done a great job takin' care of me, Rosita and Michonne. Don't be a wuss."
He assumed that I was trying to stall, but I was just so stunned that I suddenly couldn't get my legs to move no more. She was the most beautiful woman I had seen in... well, ever.
She looked up to see what all the commotion was about at the door. I was so focused on her beautiful face that it took me a minute to realize that the bundle on her back was a sleeping baby. My heart sank as I realized that if she had a baby, that also meant she probably already had a man. I blinked in surprise that the thought would cross my mind. I didn't have any business thinking about some doctor lady. She wouldn't have nothing to do with a redneck like me anyways. I started to wonder if blood loss had addled my brain, but I wasn't bleeding that bad.
Rick prodded me forward. "Dr. Casey, this is Daryl Dixon. He got quite a slash in his arm that needs ta be stitched up."
She smiled as she finished the bandage she was working on. "Rick, I've told you, call me Delilah".
Then she turned towards me, extended her hand, and said "Daryl, it's nice ta meet ya" in a soft, smoky drawl that robbed me of any ability to speak. I grunted and remembered to shake her hand. She turned away to finish speaking to Carlos and told him to return the next day for a bandage change.
"Ok Daryl, yer next" she said, patting the exam table.
I sat down and she got her supplies ready. "Unfortunately, we don't have anything to numb you before I stitch ya up" she said quietly.
