Delilah's POV
We had been in our new home for almost two weeks. Max was adjusting well to being a part of the family. He was very eager to please and frequently asked what he could do to help. He really enjoyed playing with Mercy while we prepared meals.

Max had begun telling us bits and pieces of his past. His parents had never married and had split up when he was small. His mom was European and his father lived in New York City, which explained his unusual intonation. His mom lived primarily in New York, but he had also spent large periods of time abroad. He had been with his mother when things went bad. They tried to get out of the city, but his mother didn't survive. He joined up with Lyric's group on the road and she had taken care of him.

Max had been enjoying the time he was spending with Daryl and Aaron. In addition to learning the patrol routes and scheduling, he was also learning tracking and hunting skills. Daryl thought he was catching on quickly and was happy that Max was working with them.

As we got to know Max and grew closer to him I thought about the fact that Daryl and I were both old enough to be Max's parents. If we had gotten together when I was twenty, we could have a son Max's age. I watched Max playing on the floor with Mercy as Daryl and I made breakfast one morning. Daryl moved behind me, wrapping his arms around me. He leaned close to my ear. "Ya seem lost in thought there Doc. Ya doin' ok?"

I leaned back against him and nodded my head. "Ever think about what life coulda been like if we'd met years ago Daryl... if we'd already started a family... if we had a son Max's age?"

He grunted. "Nah. I don't really think about things like that Doc, cuz if we'd a met eighteen years ago you wouldn't a wanted anythin' ta do with me. I wasn't the man I am now."

I sighed. "Yeah, I guess yer right. And I woulda made a lousy mama back then anyway."

Daryl spun me around in his arms and put his forehead to mine. "I can't imagine ya ever bein' anythin' other than the amazin' mama ya are now Doc. No more a that talk. But now that ya mention family and havin' babies... feelin' any different at all? Any symptoms that might make ya think that we're havin' any luck,"

I kissed him softly. "Not yet darlin'. But I didn't start havin' any symptoms for a while with Mercy either. And we've only been tryin' for a month."

He smiled. "Yeah, but we been tryin' awful hard!" He winked.

I chuckled and pretended to push him away. "Yeah, we have. If I'm not pregnant yet it sure ain't for lack a tryin' darlin'."

He growled and pulled me in tight for a kiss. "I reckon that means we gotta just keep on tryin' then Doc." He whispered gruffly in my ear.

I giggled. "Yeah, but not right now darlin'." I whispered in his ear and leaned my head towards Max.

Daryl scowled. "Yeah, one drawback a havin' more kids is that ya get more cock blocks too."

I laughed and Max turned to look at us with an eyebrow raised. We both chuckled and then Daryl swatted my ass. "C'mon mama, let's finish gettin' breakfast ready."

Roe was finally going to meet with the two guys Carlos and Billy wanted to introduce him to this afternoon. Rosita was watching the infirmary that day so I was planning to make them lunch, and then hoped to get in some sewing time. Daryl and Max were going over to Aaron and Erik's house for a few hours, but didn't have a run planned for the day.
