** Hey readers,
Thanks so much for helping me reach 3,000 reads! Sorry my updates have slowed down, but my work schedule has been busier this summer. And I'm sure that many of you understand how busy life can get in the summer time when your kids are home from school and wanting to be entertained.I'm determined to finish this story before Season 8 starts on October 22! I already have ideas outlined for four other stories, I just have to decide which one I want to work on first. I've learned a lot from the experience of writing this story, and hope I can put it all to use to improve my writing in my next stories.
Thanks again!**3 1/2 months later
Daryl's POV
Dr. Carson shook his head in surprise. Only another month and a half to go until Delilah's due date, and he didn't think she would have made it this far. He had been doing ultrasounds with the "wand" probe thing to measure how thick her cervix was every two weeks. I guess this showed him that she wasn't in danger of suddenly delivering without him here, but I wasn't convinced. After the way Bowyn seemed to almost fall out of her, I was getting pretty nervous that the same thing would happen with the twins... just with a lot more complications. He was just finishing the scan and noticed the look on my face. "What's up Daryl? You seem even more concerned than I am about this pregnancy."
I shrugged and Delilah giggled. "Dr. Carson, he's been followin' me around for the last two weeks actin' like these babies are gonna drop outta me any second. Please make him stop! I'm takin' it as easy as I can. I sit around with my feet propped up whenever I can manage it, and no one will let me do a lick a housework."
Dr. Carson chuckled. "Well, I don't know as I blame him Delilah. Your labor signs with Bowyn were so subtle you didn't even recognize them yourself. The babies look great. They're right on the growth curve. Twin A is head down at this point. Your cervix seems to be hanging in there so far. No significant thinning yet. I think I'm going to plan to transfer my things here within the next week to ten days. I'll see what I can work out for the Hilltop. Is that soon enough for you Daryl?"
I grunted. "I reckon. But don't mean I ain't gonna worry."
Delilah put her hand on my shoulder. "Daryl, try not ta worry so much darlin'. Your scowl is startin' ta scare the neighbors." She winked at me, and drew out a small smile. She always seemed to know the best way to draw me out of a bad humor.
Dr. Carson finished his exam and helped Delilah sit up. She was bigger now than she had been the day she delivered Bowyn. "Holy fuck! I feel so huge! How much bigger are these babies gonna get Doc? I think I've almost run outta room for them already!" I had been wondering the same question.
He laughed. "Well, I think twin A weighs about five pounds, and twin B is just over four and a half. That's about nine and a half pounds of baby. We figured Bowyn weighed in at about seven and a half pounds, so it's understandable that you'd feel stretched to your limit."
I helped her to her feet. She swayed from side to side when she walked now, and usually walked around with her hand on her lower back. I had made the mistake of chuckling at her just once. She watched me closely now to make certain that I wasn't amused by her movements from sitting on the exam table to standing and walking. I managed to fix the concerned scowl back on my face.
Dr. Carson cleaned everything he'd used and began to gather his belongings for the trip back to the Hilltop. We walked him to the stables and said our goodbyes.
