Delilah's POV
The next morning, we were up before sunrise. I let Mercy sleep until after Roe and I had breakfast, then picked up her sleeping little body and carried her to the van. Roe and I rode inside the van, with Daryl in front of us on his motorcycle. Mercy woke up and nursed, and then the motion of the van lulled her right back to sleep. All the other vehicles had gone ahead of us except for Carlos and Billy following in a car behind the van. Rick wanted to keep us apart from the rest of the group to avoid losing the precious medical supplies if there was any type of ambush along the way.
I could see Roe watching me from the corner of his eye.
I sighed. "What?"
He chuckled. "If we had a car seat, you could leave the baby with me and ride bitch on his bike."
I rolled my eyes and scowled. "After all these years Roe Casey, you know that I prefer riding my own bike."
He laughed. "C'mon Lila girl! Ya know I'm just messin' with ya. I just know how much you miss your Triumph. If there had been a way to bring ya back a bike from our supply run, ya know I woulda snagged ya one."
I reached out and put my hand on his. "It's ok Roe. You know that I can't ride with the baby on my back anyway. Maybe once she gets bigger you could help Daryl hunt down the parts and y'all could do a custom build for me?"
He squeezed my hand and glanced toward me. "You know I'd do anything ta make ya happy, right?"
I looked down at the precious baby in my arms and smiled. "I already am happy Roe. You don't need to do anything else to make me happy. This world is so much different than our old lives. Priorities have changed."
He smiled. "Yeah, baby girl being so perfect in every way makes me pretty happy too. But you know that I only wanna make things better for you cuz I love ya so much."
I squeezed his hand back. "I love ya too. Ya already do so much for us."
We made good time on the trip to Hilltop. Maggie was there to great us when we arrived. I had already heard so much about her from the people at Alexandria. She told us that usually she would have us set up in a trailer they used for their clinic, but they had decided that it would best to set up a second site inside the main building both for safety and because there would be more space for patients. She showed us the space they had prepared for us, and the men unloaded the van.
I immediately took a liking to Maggie. Her easy going demeanor on the exterior covered a very tough woman, making her a natural born leader.
She introduced me to some of the other community members as she showed me around. "Delilah, I'd like you ta meet Paul Rovia. Most folks around here call him 'Jesus'."
I looked up into a pair of gorgeous blue eyes in one of the prettiest faces I had ever seen. "It's a pleasure to meet you Delilah." He said as he shook my hand warmly.
I smiled. "Nice ta meet you as well. I hope that you don't mind me bein' so forward, but you have to be one of the most fabulously pretty people I've ever seen!" I gushed and then secretly cursed myself for sounding like a stupid school girl.
He laughed showing a row of perfect white teeth. "I don't mind at all when a beautiful woman calls me pretty."
He put his arm around my waist and looked Maggie. "I'm liking this new doc Maggie! Can we keep her?"
