Serena sat in the cage, her energy completely drained. She writhed around, attempting to rid of her stomach pain. She hasn't eaten since the day Red had took her in, which was approximately two days ago. Yup. Two days, and Serena had already starved.
Red fed her, although, it was rather crappy. He fed her loaves of bread, and soon, she's gotten tired of it. There was no way that she'd eat bread for who knows how long?
"Survival. I need to survive." Was the only statement revolving around Serena's mind.
Being the smartass she is, she's got a plan. Something better than food. Yes, you're correct.
An escape plan.
She began to cough and groan. Se clutched her stomach, pretending as if her stomach pain had gotten more severe. Red, being the dumbass he is, fell for it.
"What's wrong, darling?" Red asked, clearly concerned.
"Everything." She plainly replied. "I need real meals, Red. You can't expect me to rely on loaves of breads if you want me to live. You should've known that by now."
Red sighed, sprinting towards the cage. "I'll." He starts hesitantly. "I'll be back. I'll go to the nearest town, and I'll get you a proper meal."
Serena nods, eyeing the keys that dangled from his side pocket.
Red sensed that she was distracted, and Serena knew this.
She immediately flashed Red her sweetest smile. "Be back soon." She mutters sincerely.
This caught Red's attention. He was curious by Serena's sudden act of sincerity, unfortunately, he did not care. He liked it.
Step One. Check.
Red stood up, still dazed by Serena's "enchantment". This was her only chance. She took the opportunity, grabbing the keys out from Red's pocket.
Step Two. Check.
Red smiled back. And this time, it was a real smile. No. Not a smirk, not any kind of fuckboy smile. Yes. A real, true smile.
Serena was slightly taken aback by this. Suddenly, she felt as if it was possible that there was that tiny ray of sunshine peeking through Red's dark, and stormy clouds. There could be some good in him. But we'll never know. Right?
"Alright, Sere. Snap out of it." She thought quietly, clutching the keys in her hands.
"I-if you want." Red starts. "I can get you a first-aid kit. Y-you're hurt- really bad."
"Uh, yeah. That's cool."
"Alright then. Stay here. I'll be back soon." Red said, backing away from the cage. He disappears in a flash, leaving tiny specks of what it seems to be like ash behind. (Yes, "ash" as in what comes from a volcano xD)
"OKAY, Serena." Serena breathes out, unlocking the chains that clung on her arms, and legs. In a rapid motion, she stood up, slipping on her torn, and dirty clothes that once laid on the cage floor.
She brought her arm out from the cage bars, and began to pick at the cage doors with the key that she had recently stolen. After some time of playing with the locks, she finally got herself out. Once that was taken care off, she ran out of the horrid cage.
She didn't know where she was running to. She didn't know the way out. Her heart pounded within every step. She needed to hurry. She needed to get out. Now.
Serena ran her fingers through her oily and dirty hair stressfully. Thoughts and voices were rushing into her mind and she was confused in which voice she should listen to first.
Until...
Snort!
Serena stopped on her tracks, merely interrupting her thoughts.
Then, another snort.
Not just any snort, a snort coming from a sleeping Pokémon. Serena followed the snores, until they got louder, and louder,
She peeked her head from the cave corridors, only to find Red's Charizard sleeping. It writhed around the cave floors as the chain that wrapped its neck jingled.
Serena lightly gasped to herself. She had another mischievous plan. She knew how to get out. Her stomach pain quickly dissipated as she walked up to the sleeping Charizard in confidence.
She began to stroke Charizard's head, as loud snort escaped from his snout. He began to yawn, as Serena jolted backwards, yanking her hand away from the Pokémon.
Charizard shot his eyes open, his eyes filled with anguish. He growled, charging towards the honey-blonde.
"WAIT!" Serena exclaimed, placing a hand between Charizard's eyes. Serena sighed in relief, and began to stroke his head.
"I need your help." Serena whispered. "And I don't have much time. Red will find me, and-"
Charizard interrupts, yanking his head away. Clearly not up for the task.
"You'll be free too." Serena began. "You can help me escape. You can live with me. I-I have a Fennekin, and she's so lovely, and sweet." She paused. "You can be happy again. I'll be there every morning when you wake up, and every night when you go to sleep. I'll be there, Charizard. You don't have to live this life anymore."
Serena stopped, collapsing herself on the floor with the Pokémon. Waiting for a response.
Charizard whipped his head back to Serena, a heartwarming smile plastered on his face. He nodded in response, and laid his forehead against Serena's.
"Thank you." Serena inaudibly whispers, tears of joy streaming down her cheeks. This was it. She was going to escape.
She was going to see Ash again.
