"What are you doing Zeke?" I whisper, pressing my fingers against my forehead and wiping the sleep from my eyes.
"Just put these on, we're going to S.H.I.E.L.D." Zeke announces, throwing some clothes onto the bed.
"Don't you understand? I'm not wanted there." I point out, sitting up in bed.
Zeke is already dressed, in jeans and a blue designer jumper. He stands up, resting his hands on his hips and looking at me.
"That's going to change. Get dressed, Skye."
He marches out of the room. Sighing, I pull on the jumper and jeans Zeke picked. Walking out of the bedroom and down the glass stairs, I brush my hair into a ponytail. Zeke is leaning on the glass wall by the door, swinging the car keys on his finger. He stands up as he sees me, a weak smile on his face.
"What are you going to do?" I ask, following him out of the door.
"I'm going to give your dad a piece of my mind." Zeke mutters, unlocking the car.
I climb in and Zeke starts the engine, reversing sharply out of the driveway.
"Why are you doing this? Can't we just leave it?" I quiz.
"No. Next time I might not be there to catch you." Zeke mumbles. I don't argue back.
Pulling into S.H.I.E.L.D, Zeke locks the car and grabs my hand. Dragging me inside, I see him slip out an ID card from his back pocket and push me through the security barriers. Walking into the elevator, I catch a glimpse of the ID badge before Zeke pushes it back into his pocket. There's a clear photo of a black haired, stern looking Ward on the card.
"Zeke!" I hiss.
The doors click shut and Zeke glances at me. Determination is painted all over his face.
"You could go to prison." I whisper into his ear, standing beside him so my shoulder brushes against his.
"I'm not stealing it, just borrowing." Zeke points out.
The doors spring open and Zeke grips my hand, pulling me out of the elevator. The workers all instantly glance up at us, fear dancing in their wide eyes. I force myself to look away, watching our feet move as we walk down a corridor. Zeke stops outside a white door. I can hear the distant chatter of the Avengers, with one significant voice missing that normally I wouldn't notice much.
"Sit down and don't move." Zeke orders.
I do as I'm told, fidgeting in the black leather chair. Zeke knocks on the door and steps inside, closing it behind him without looking at me. I hear my dad start to yell and the voices get louder.
"Stop. Do you want to know what happened yesterday? I got a phone call from Skye saying how much she loved me. She was stood on a roof...about to jump and end her life because of you. Because her dad hates her!" I can just make out Zeke shouting.
The door is suddenly swung open. My eyes dart up and I see the burning re hate in my dad's icy eyes.
Everything hits me. All of the great times. Birthdays. Christmas'. Days out. All my dad making up for the years we missed. All crumbling into fire now. I hear his laboured breathing in my ear. I watch his hands ball into tense fists at his sides.
I jump out of my seat, my feet running underneath me. Racing into the elevator, I hammer at the button for the doors to close.
"What is wrong with you?!" I hear Zeke scream, right before the doors shut.
As soon as the doors open, I jump out. I leap through the security barriers and stop. The phone ringing burns into my ears. The security men whispering into their radios gets louder. My heart beat quickens and screams in my ears. My knees buckle beneath me and I kneel down, resting my forehead on the tiled floor. Instantly I clamp my hands over my ears, whispering for it to stop as the noises ring loudly and only get louder.
"Skye?"
My eyes spring open. That voice. Raising my head, I look up. My eyes meet his. They shine brightly. He's dressed in the usual jeans and t-shirt with his loved leather jacket.
"It wasn't your fault. I couldn't stand the thought of you dying, Skye. I wouldn't have been able to keep living, knowing that I could have saved you but didn't. You have Zeke, Hope, Lucas and everyone to keep living for." Captain explains, placing his palm on my cheek, his thumb brushing the silent shocked tears from my skin.
"They hate me."
"No. They don't. They just don't understand. You need to make them understand, Skye."
"Don't go, Cap, please." I beg, my hands curling around his wrist, pulling him towards me until his forehead rests against mine and his breathing is hot on my cheeks
"I'm watching you, Skye, I'll help you whenever you need me."
"Please don't go."
"When you were stood at that roof, I gave Jarvis your coordinates so Zeke would stop you. Don't try that again, Skye." Captain warns.
"Don't go, Cap, stay please." I beg.
Captain plants a kiss on my forehead. But I don't feel it.
I blink and he's gone. Gone. Tears continue to trickle down my cheeks. A security guards steps in front of me, he reaches a hand out.
"Don't touch me!" I scream.
Zeke rushes over, pushing the security officer out of the way. He kneels down in front of me, placing a hand on each of my cheeks, lifting my head so our eyes meet.
"I just saw Cap. Is he still here?" I whisper.
"Skye...I'm sorry." Zeke mumbles.
He leans his forehead against mine and I feel wet on my cheeks. Zeke cries against me. I wrap my arms around his neck and I hide my face on his shoulder. Zeke mutters something but I can't hear him over our crying.
*
"I saw him, Zeke." I whisper.
"I know, baby, I know." Zeke says, his thumb brushing my cheek.
I wriggle gently in his lap and Zeke wraps his arms tighter around me, pulling me closer towards him. I slip my arms behind his back and sit on his legs, each of my legs on either side of his knee so I am sat facing him. Hiding my face in his neck, I hold back the tears.
"He said he was watching me. That means he isn't dead, he's still alive." I mumble.
"Skye...you saw him at the hospital. You know that he's not alive."
"He said he gave Jarvis my coordinates on the roof." I announce.
"Really?"
"He is. He is alive. He can't be dead. I saw him. He is ali-"
"His funeral is tomorrow." Zeke interupts.
