I brush my thumb against her skin gently, just enough to feel the pulse in her veins. The machine besides me beeps continuously and steadily. The doctors have taken the foil blanket away, but replaced it with an electric blanket.
It's been 7 hours since Skye fell through the ice. It's been 5 hours since I left that SHIELD interview room. I haven't seen Agent Ward. Tony and Captain have visited, Cap ignored me mainly and continues to glare at me. Tony has gone to get a drink and probably to ring Pepper.
"Come on Skye, baby, please wake up." I whisper, squeezing her hand gently.
I see her eyelids begin to flicker gently and I can't stop the grin that spreads across my lips. Watching, her eyes begin to prise open slowly I lean forward in the uncomfortable plastic chair.
"Skye?"
She turns her head slowly, a small smile dancing across her face and her powerful blue eyes shining back at me. Her eyelids continue to flicker with the need to stay closed. I feel her squeeze my hand tightly, showing that I shouldn't worry about her.
I'm always worrying about Skye. Every phone call, there's a small part of me that thinks it will be a call from one of the Avengers telling me Skye was killed in action or something similar. Every time she comes home, I'm relieved, I can keep her by my side and know she's safe.
"Hey, babe." I whisper.
Lifting our clasped hands, I kiss the back of her hand gently. I hear Skye giggle quietly and see her smile.
"You scared me." I admit.
"I'm sorry."
"Dont. Don't apologise. I should have protected you, I should have got you off the ice straight away." I argue.
"I should have told you I was going to Alaska. But, it was sort of an instant thing." Skye mutters.
"That's okay. We'll talk about that later. I'm just so glad that you are okay." I announce, kissing Skye's hand again and her eyes watching my every move.
"My power will heal me soon, then I can go home." Skye points out, grinning.
Suddenly, the doors bursting open grabs both of our attention. Turning away, I grumble under my breath as I see Agents stride in with stern faces and I can feel their glares burn.
"What's going on?" Skye asks, squeezing my hand and glancing at me.
"Zeke Matthews, you must come with us immediately." The front agent says.
Standing up, I face him. His eyes dilate quickly in shock at my sudden movement, until he composes himself. I feel my hands ball into fists as I pull away from Skye.
"Well, you can tell your ridiculous leader that I am not going." I demand.
"Are you refusing, sir?" He questions, raising an eyebrow.
"Yes. I refuse."
In one swift movement, they manage to spin me around and pin handcuffs on my wrists. I kick and shout against them, arguing to let me go. I watch Skye sit up in the hospital bed, she tries to reason with the Agents as they pull me towards the door. Everyone erupts. Tony storms through the door, demanding to know what's going on. The Agents yell at him to stand out of the way. While, Skye is trying to get out of bed.
"Skye, stop. Just let them take me." I shout, just loud enough for Skye to hear.
She slips out of bed, landing on her knees on the tiled floor. She groans and holds her hurt wrist. Tony races to her side, pulling her onto her feet.
