*Zeke's POV*
I race to her side, my fingers brushing up her arm as I lock my hand with hers and slip my fingers between. I place my hand on Skye's shoulder.
"Skye? Ward, I found her!" I say.
"I'm on my way." he replies.
I lean forward and gently slip the helmet off. Some of the electrodes are glued to her head, but I gently pull them off.
"Skye. Please, baby, wake up." I whisper.
Standing over her, I place my palms on her cheeks and keep glancing at the screen. Skye is still dead. My finger slips down to her wrist and I sigh in relief when I feel a pulse.
"I know you are there, my genius, please, don't leave." I mutter.
Slowly, her eyelids flicker open gradually and her power filled blue eyes shine through. She twists her head in a circle and moves her fingers in mine.
"Skye?"
Her face tenses when I talk. She sits bolt upright and stares at me with a confused look. Standing up, she takes a few steps away from me and shakes her head with tears in her eyes.
"No. No. You're dead."
Tears spring in my eyes at her words. Dead? That's what these sick animals made her think?
"I'm not dead. I'm here, Skye."
"No. You died in my arms. You aren't still alive."
I step forward, placing my palm against hers. Skye's eyes follow our locked fingers and she brushes her fingertips down my arm and back to my hand.
"See. I am alive. I'm here to save you." I whisper.
"Zeke."
The sound of her saying my name makes my knees go weak again. She slips her arms around my neck and hides her face in my neck. Wrapping my arms tight around her, I squeeze Skye gently against me. I've missed this. I've missed her body against mine as we sleep. There's just been a space.
"I promised I'd keep you safe and I broke that promise. I am so sorry." I whisper, feeling tears swim in my eyes.
Skye pulls away gently, her arms still locked behind my neck. Her eyes meet mine and I see the pain burn brightly like fireworks. I lean forward, my nose brushing against hers.
"I love you, Zeke." The words escape her lips and I can't help the grin that travels across my lips.
"I love you too, my genius."
I notice the slight twitch on Skye's cheeks, the pain in her eyes. Darting my eyes down to her leg in the shorts, I can see the blood soaking through the bandage.
"What happened?" I ask.
"I don't remember." Skye admits, she refuses to look at me as her cheeks shimmer with embarrassment.
"Come on."
I scoop Skye into my arms, swinging her legs over my arm and she leans her head on my chest. With Skye's arms still locked around my neck, I carry her out of the room.
"Ward, I've got Skye and I'm on my way out." I say.
"I like you in this." Skye whispers, running her fingertips over my neck and curling her fingers around my bullet proof vest.
"Hurry up then Zeke, there's hundreds of guys here that I'm fighting on my own!" Ward hisses in my ear.
Picking up speed, I run with Skye in my arms until I reach the safety of the plane. Three other Agents march over, asking Skye questions, she shakes her head at them and clings to me tighter.
"She needs to go to a hospital."
Swerving on the rain drenched tarmac, Ward shifts into park. Picking up Skye, I rush into the hospital with her in my arms.
"No. No hospital, Zeke, please." She begs, I ignore her like before.
One of the doctors races to my side, wearing the usual blue uniform with a stethoscope around his neck. He pushes a stretcher towards me and I lay Skye on it. She mumbles something and reaches out her hand to me. They push her through the doors and I go to follow. But, another doctor stops me. I glare up at him with anger.
"You can't go in there." He says.
"I have to see her. I need to stay with her. Please."
The doctor glances over his shoulder. Skye argues with the doctors, trying to push them off and screaming out. She keeps glancing at the door, with expecting eyes of me to help her.
"Fine. But, only if you calm her down."
"I will."
Pushing the transparent doors open, I step into the room. About 5 doctors stand around Skye, one attempting to hold her head down and the others holding her legs and arms. One doctor is trying to insert a drip into the back of her hand. Skye kicks and screams against them, pain piercing her voice.
"Please. Get off me! No more needles, please!" She screams.
Walking to her side, I take the needle from the doctors hand. He glares at me and all of their eyes turn to me with confusion and disbelief.
"Trust me." I mutter.
Stepping up to Skye, I place my palm on her forehead, feeling the burning of her skin. Her eyes open and the tears trickle down her dirty cheeks, they search mine. Begging me to make this stop.
"Let them help you, Skye." I whisper.
"I don't want anymore. Please, Zeke, don't let them hurt me." She begs, tears spilling onto her lips.
"I won't let them hurt you. But, you have to promise to stop fighting them." I deal.
She nods her head.
I hand the needle to the same doctor. He leans forward and wraps his hand around Skye's wrist, her vein stands out as she tenses. I place my hand under her chin and force her to look up at me. Gently, I press my lips against hers. After a few seconds, she doesn't kiss back. Pulling away, her eyes have closed and she seems peaceful. Skye's closed eyelids hide the pain. I brush my fingertips on her cheek, the dirt falling on my second finger.
*
Skye's eyes flicker up to me, her mouth opening to say something. But, she doesn't.
"What's wrong?" I whisper, my fingers dancing up her arm.
I'm lying on the hospital bed beside her, Skye's head leans on my shoulder and her skin is hot against mine. She nuzzles her head into my shoulder and the machines beep louder by my head.
"I..I." Skye begins to stutter.
My heart aches.
"Sh. Sh. It's okay baby."
"G-Gett Cap-Capt-tain." Skye mutters.
"I will, I will." I whisper, planting a kiss on her flushed cheeks.
