Professor Snape began pairing off the other students but one particular Ravenclaw wasn't paying attention until his name was called. "Holmes and Moriarty." His blue eyes flicked up to meet the black ones of his new partner, the anger evident in the latter's.
"But Professor he's a Ravenclaw!" The Slytherin yelled, his voice rising with each word.
"And you are failing my class Moriarty. I have no alternate option." Came Snape's bored response.
"How about not pairing me with a Ravenclaw?" he was standing at this point, arms flailing as he continued to shout.
"Sit down Moriarty, or I'll be forced to take house points from Slytherin." Letting out an angered sigh the Slytherin made his way over to the Ravenclaw's desk and sank into his new seat. "Turn to page 364 in your textbook and complete the potion. Follow the instructions correctly."
"Go on then. Get on with it." The Slytherin waved his hands at the cauldron and the ingredients laid out before them.
"Why should I?" the Ravenclaw replied with a shrug of his shoulders, leaning back in his chair.
"Because I'm not going to do it."
"Why?"
"Because it's dull."
"Why?"
"Because I can do it easily, there's no challenge."
"If it's so easily why don't you just do it and get decent grades?"
"Why don't you just do it for the two of us and stop asking questions?" The Slytherin growled, clenching his fists under the table.
"Because it's too easy and therefor it's dull." The Ravenclaw smirked at the anger spreading across the other boy's face.
"Just do the bloody potion."
"No."
"Do it."
"Why should I?"
"Because I don't care if I fail but I'm sure you do."
"I don't. I could pass this class if I was blind."
"So could I. In fact, I could pass this class even if I was blind and deaf."
"I could pass even if I didn't turn up for half the lessons."
"I could pass without turning up to any of the lessons."
"Well I could pa-"
"Holmes and Moriarty! When you are quite finished." Snape's voice interrupted their arguing, both their heads snapped to meet the cold eyes of the professor. "Detention for a week, both of you."
"You can't be serious." The Ravenclaw muttered under his breath.
"Just fantastic." The Slytherin groaned as he turned to glare daggers at the Ravenclaw beside him. As Snape began talking about yet another essay that had to be handed in by the end of the week, the bell sounded to signal the end of potions. The Slytherin stuffed his books into his bag and hurried out the classroom, a harsh scowl etched in his features. The Ravenclaw watched the other leave, with an equally angry look on his face before scooping his books into his arms and storming out as well.
