Reader's P.O.V.
Upon arriving at Hina's house, I was immediately greeted by her Mother who seemed surprised but happy to see me once more. We didn't see much of each other after that club dinner a year ago.
Hina's Mom: Oh (Y/n)! It's nice to see you again. Hina was telling me that your guys are doing some kid of gaming tournament. That sounds like so much fun. If I were younger I would love to do that.
It actually surprised me that Hina's Mom was into gaming. Usually parents aren't interested in such things.
Hina's Mom: I don't want to keep you. Hina's room is just down the hall, the 3rd door on the right.
She told me as I waved her goodbye and followed her directions. I knocked 3 times before hearing Hina's voice on the opposite side of the door.
Hina: Come in.
She said gently.
(Y/n): Hey Hina.
I greeted upon opening the door.
Hina: (Y/n), your just in time. Look.
Hina was smiling as she held up a black T-shirt with a very interesting design on it.
(Y/n): Woah, are those for us? They look nice. Did you do them online.
Hina: Nope, they needed to be special so my Mom and I worked all day to make them. Here, take these two. They're for you and Tomoko, the designs ae different since you two are going to be in the tournament. I'll give the rest out to our families later.
(Y/n): Thanks Hina, I really appreciate it.
I said thankfully as I neatly folded the shirts before placing them into my backpack. I was going to keep them a surprise for now.
Looking around, I could see that Hina had a decent sized room and that it was something I'd expect a girl her age to have. The room was colorful but not too bright, it had an organized bookshelf and a desk for Hina to do her work. Her bed was in a corner across the room and was neatly made. With her thin curtains, the window let in a lot of sunlight that would shine directly on a purple rug in the middle of the floor. Hina's room was also very tidy. On the right side of Hina's room, I could see she had set up everything we needed for gaming. I remember Hina saying she was terrible at games but I guess that didn't stop her from having fun with them. She seemed to notice me pondering something and answered my thoughtful question.
Hina: All of this stuff is for my dad. It's a bit old but we can still play the game on it. He's at work so he won't mind.
She reassured me. I nodded and soon we began Hina's training.
Time skip (1 hour later)....
Hina wasn't kidding when she said she was bad at video games. I thought Tomoko was bad in the beginning but she eventually improved, Hina on the other hand, had no concept of gaming what so ever. Training her to be a half descent player seems like it would take months....maybe even years. She died so many times and often had many opportunities to score a victory but was too slow to notice them.
The entire time, she had a very determined face. I knew she really wanted to help and I couldn't bring myself to tell her that she wouldn't a good substitute for Tomoko and even if she was good, there was no guarantee that Tomoko wouldn't get better in time for the tournament. However, I was glad that I didn't have to break the bad news. it seemed Hina already knew.
Hina: I stink, don't I?
Hina sighed.
(Y/n): Well....you just need more practice.
Hina didn't believe me and I knew that but to make her feel better I tried encouraging her by saying that I'll help her understand the game better. Hearing this, she gained a sudden boost to try even harder. Right after, we had a conversation that went something like this:
Hina: I don't understand. What do all these buttons on the screen mean?
(Y/n): Just look at the pictures. For instance, this button right here is a scroll. It lets you look at your characters information and this button right here let's you see your food items.
Hina: How can you tell that's the food button.
(Y/n): Um...because it's shaped like a chicken leg.
Hina: O_O......right.
I shook my head in amusement before asking Hina a question that's been on my mind for a while.
(Y/n): Hina? Do you think Tomoko and I have a chance of winning?
Hina: What?! Of course, why would you ask? You have as much potential as anyone else. Besides, you only have 3 more opponents to go don't you.
(Y/n): Yeah but those are the top 3 players in the world.
Hina: So are the two of you, even if your the fourth in the ranks. That doesn't mean they are professionals or anything, not like the one's you'll be competing against at the tournament. they will be the real challenge. You've come too far to turn back now. You might as well finish. You have to win or else who's going to wear the awesome shirts I made?
(Y/n): Yeah, wouldn't want the shirts to go to waste.
I agreed.
Hina: Even if I'm not filling in for Tomoko, I'll be sure to be the loudest on in the crowd to cheer you both on.
(Y/n): Thanks Hina.
I said.
Hina: Have you two thought of what your going to do with the prize money yet?
Hina asked.
(Y/n): No, it's actually harder to decided than you'd think.
Hina: Isn't there something that you've always wanted? 100,000 US dollars converted to yen is a lot of money. That's 11,084,300.00 yen to be exact.
(Y/n): Wow. Your really good at math.
Hina: Thanks.
Hina said proudly
(Y/n): There is one thing I have in mind but I still want Tomoko to agree to it before I make a serious decision.
Hina: What is it? Tell me, tell me, tell!
Hina asked anxiously.
(Y/n): I can't tell you now but you'll know soon enough, in fact the whole world will.
