Rheanna’s POV

I take a deep breath before making my way towards the den’s entrance. Usually there are loads of people waiting around here, like guards. As I get closer I hear footsteps behind me. I turn around to see Siva and Kass walking up behind me.

“What are you doing here?” I ask them, slightly shocked that they’re heading to the den, especially since the others are always telling me how much of a gentle soul Siva is, but yet, here he is heading to the slaughter house to get his next meal most probably.

“What do you mean what am I doing here? People only come here for one thing, Rheanna.” Siva says, with a devilish grin on his face.

“Not always.” I shrug, before turning and making my way into the den. There doesn’t seem to be “guards around today, which can only mean one thing. Today is the day, of the weekly vampire gathering. I’ve missed the last couple, but I can’t say I’ve missed it. I walk inside and instantly I can see the swarms of vampires. They’re everywhere, laughing and joking with one another, like they’re human again. Of course, the real fun starts when they bring the sacrifices out. Well I say sacrifices, but to be honest, they’re just some random people Vlad’s men picked off the streets a couple of days before the gathering. So they really had no say in the matter at all. You have to feel sorry for them really, having their life torn away from them and all for our entertainment.

I make my way through the crowds, trying to get closer to the podium, of course that’s a challenge in it’s self considering there are people guarding it.

“Rheanna. I haven’t seen you in ages, how have you been?” I turn to see Julia, an older vampire. She’s 340 years old, but her body is frozen at 35 years old, so you could never tell.

“I’m great, thanks.” I say before continuing on my way. I haven’t got time for chitchat. I need to find Vesuvious.

I scan the room and as I thought, he’s nowhere to be seen, he’ll be with his brother, hiding away until the sacrifices are killed and then him and his brother will come out and say a few words before vanishing for another week. I finally reach the stairs, but I’m stopped by a tall, plump man, who looks like he could kill a child with his bare hands and he wouldn’t even blink. “I’m looking for Vesuvious.” I tell him, but he doesn’t even look at me, he just stares blankly over my head. Realising that he probably hasn’t noticed me, I lean down and attempt to sneak behind him. However he obviously notices because he throws me back in front of him.

“You can’t go up there.” He says simply.

“You don’t understand. I need to see Vesuvious.” I tell him, eager to get through.

“He’s busy.” He says.

“I know, but he will want to know I’m here, really he will. He’s a good friend of mine.” I tell him.

“You know the rules. Nobody is allowed upstairs. Vesuvious and the others will be out here soon to start the celebration. Now go back out there are have fun. I don’t want to have to kick you out.” He tells me, with a serious look on his face.

“Please just let me see him. I’m an old friend and he will want to know I’m here. I haven’t seen him in so long you see and well I have some news for him. Just let me up please. I beg you.” I tell him, but still he doesn’t budge. “Look, you can come up there with me if you want and when Vesuvious says that I’m good and I can stay then you can leave.” I tell him.

“You’re not going to drop this are you?” he sighs.

“No.” I smile.

“Okay, fine. But the moment he says he doesn’t know who you are, or that he doesn’t want you there, I’m going to kick you out okay?” he asks. I nod eagerly and he tells another man a watch the stairs and then he leads me up the stairs. We go down several corridors before we finally stop.
