Time

KATE'S POV

The fact that Jenny was so nervous made my heart skip a beat.
She's my bestfriend. I wanted her to be happy.
"I would love some pizza right now" she said.
"Me too" Ethan added.
Grayson stayed silent. Staring at her.
I could see she wanted to speak. But she didn't.

The fact that I knew she was sick even before she met them made me feel like shit.
We both had no idea he sickness would get that bad.
She was always positive about the whole thing. She wouldn't even talk about it.
About how the doctors told her they didn't know what was wrong with her.
Why she's sick.
How they were going to treat her sickness.
But still, she kept being positive.

"This looks delicious" Jenny said as the waiter put the pizza in front of her.
"Gray you have to taste this" she added.
He took a bite from the pizza.
"It is good"
"Ethan can I talk to you for a second?"
"Yeah of course"
We both walked outside the room as we left Grayson and Jenny alone.

"What's wrong?" Ethan asked.
"Nothing. I just needed to get some fresh air?"
"KAT! You couldn't wait until I was finished with my pizza?"
"No. Because I'm bad"
"Yeah I forgot how naughty you are"
We both laughed as he knew what my definition of bad was.
"Is something going on between Jenny and Grayson?" He suddenly asked.
"No. I don't think so"
"I hope not. Grayson is so in love with her I don't think he will take it if they got in a fight"
A fight is the last thing Jenny would be thinking about.

"You ready to go back to the bus guys?" I asked.
"We're finally going home!" Ethan added.
"Jenny wanna walk with me?" I asked her.
"Yeah sure Kat"
"We'll catch up with you guys later"

We walked silently the first few minutes. But then I heard her say
"I love him kat. But time... I just need time"
And that was the first time I actually saw her crying.
The only person that stood by me through the years and always comforted me was crying. And I couldn't do anything to make her feel better.
Because no matter what I could have said I wouldn't have changed the fact that she was sick. That she won't have that time she wished she had.
What was I supposed to do? I felt heartbroken.
Like my bones were getting crushed. One at a time.

"Jenny"
"It's okay kat. I'm sorry. I don't know why I cried" she said as we got to the bus.
She instantly got into her room as I sat down on the couch staring out the window.

"Hey" I heard Grayson saying from behind me.
"Hey" I replied.
"What's going on kate?"
"Nothing"
"Don't lie to me"
"I'm not"
"Kate look at me"
"I don't want to"
"Look at me"
He said turning me to face him.
"Why are you crying??" He asked his eyes wide.
"I'm not crying. There's something in my eyes"
"Yeah right. Kate is everything okay? Did Ethan hurt you?"
"What? No Grayson I'm fine. Ethan and I are great"
"Then it is about Jenny. Kate I beg you, tell me is she okay? She barely talked to me the entire time we were alone at the restaurant"
"Grayson I..."
"What?"
"I can't tell you"
"Then she will"
Suddenly, he stood up and walked to her room.
