Bonding with Georgia turned out better than I had expected, she was like a female Jerome and it felt like he was right here with me. I ended up apologizing to Edward so the two of them had joined us at the table where they served lunch. We all ate together, as I tried to make it up to Ed by letting him quiz me with some new riddles he had been working on. Oswald and Georgia made small talk in the meantime but I could see Oswald getting uncomfortable so I started a conversation between the four of us, leaving the riddle solving for another time.
"So guys, what's on the agenda for this fine day?" I asked.
"Thinking of new riddles."
"Trying to answer his riddles."
"Plot everyone's murder - I mean not much." I laughed at Georgia's sardonic sense of humor but I don't think Ed ad Oswald saw the funny side.
"Well you guys are all boring." I concluded. "Except Georgia, next time let me join the convo." I winked at her and we laughed. "Let's find something for us to do." I suggested looking around the fairly bare room saved for some cards and board games.
I made my way over to the corner where they kept the things we wee supposed to use as entertainment and scanned the variety of board games, my eyes landing on monopoly. "I've got the best idea!" I called to them. "Let's play monopoly!"
"You've got to be kidding me." Oswald asked rhetorically.
"I'd much rather we play a more intellectually based game like scrabble." Edward added.
"And let you win? I don't think so buddy." I smirked.
"I'm down for monopoly." Georgia replied simply and I was taken by surprise by the lack of psychosis in her tone.
"Monopoly it is." I disregarded the boys immediate complaints until they had no other option but to just play the game anyway.
"You know my family and I used to play monopoly all the time." Georgia stated.
"It'd be a little hard to play with em now am I right?" The two of us busted into laughter, throwing our heads back, our faces going red.
"Did we miss something?" Edward asked Oswald who only shrugged in response. We eventually sobered up and began setting out the board.
The game went on way longer than we had planned it to, Georgia ended up winning by a short margin, me coming second. The boys were sulking about losing and Edward was livid with the knowledge that he had come last out of the four of us. As I began packing everything up I noticed a pile of $500 dollar notes under Georgia's side of the table. That sneaky bitch!
"Georgia cheated!" I accused, my finger pointing at her angrily.
"No I didn't!" She shouted in denial but the boys weren't falling for that trick.
"You did so! Look at all this money you had hidden away! You stole it from the bank!" By now both Ed and Oswald had gotten involved.
"That's not fair! I could have won!" Oswald exclaimed but I looked over at him incredulously.
"You mean you would have gotten second, I would have won!" I exclaimed but he wasn't taking a bar of it.
"I cannot believe that you relied on unfair methods to reach your victory, your sportsmanship is preposterous." Edward looked ready to kill, the four of us probably looked like children, fighting over a board game.
"Will you guys relax? It's just a game of monopoly chill!" Georgia threw her hands up in surrender but I wasn't having it.
"A game of monopoly I could have won if you played right. No wonder Jerome left you here!" The words slipped out and before I knew it, it was too late to take them back. "Georgia I'm sorry." I apologized immediately but the hurt look on her face and the tears that welled up in her eyes were enough evidence that the damage had already been done.
"How could you say that?" Her voice was soft with tears before her face turned back to anger. "How dare you!" She screeched, pouncing on me and trying to claw at my face but luckily one of the guards stepped in before she could do any real damage. The boys came over to me in a worried panic.
"Katerina are you ok?" Oswald asked, concern thick in his voice and I nodded absently. The guards took Georgia away kicking and screaming, yelling vicious words my way.
"You think he's coming back for you! You think you're special? You are going to be stuck here your entire life!" She was finally hauled out of the room, turning it into a deafening silence, the only sound that could be heard was the sound of boots softly thudding against the floor before obstructing my view of the ground.
"Miss Ferdine, I think it's time you and I had a chat." I lifted my head to find a strange man in a lab coat. He was bald and fairly short although still taller than me and had small, round framed glasses set on the bridge of his nose. Before I could respond I was softly pushed in his direction by Oswald. I looked back at the two and they tried to send me a reassuring smile but it only made me feel more freighted of the man. He lead me out of the room and into the hallway.
"If this is about the monopoly game I'm really sorry, I know I was really mean but I didn't mean it I promise! I'm being good, this was only a one time thing please don't stop Selina from visiting me! I'm really, really sorry" I rambled and his lips twitched up in amusement.
"This isn't about the monopoly game Miss Ferdine." He replied and I looked at him confused, we reached his office and he offered me a seat which I politely accepted. "I'm very aware of the progress you have been making over the past couple of weeks with Dr. Miset. She tells me great things about you and I felt like I needed to see it for myself." I nodded, still slightly confused.
"Dr. Miset says nice things about me?" I asked, slightly chuffed that she thinks I'm doing better. "I've been trying really hard to get better." I added, proud that my efforts were seemingly paying off.
"That seems to be true, although I have noticed that the company you keep seem to be impacting negatively on your progress." My eyes widened at the assumption.
"What do you mean? The boys are my best friends, please don't take them away." I pleaded and he chuckled at me.
"Not the boys Miss Ferdine, I'm referring to Miss Fishwick." He stated and I couldn't help but agree.
"She reminds me a lot of Jerome." I say and he nods understandingly.
"The two were very close during his time here it appears. Does this feel threatening to you? Considering your romantic relations to him." I nodded, not saying a word. "And why is that?"
"She's prettier than me." I said, barely above a whisper. "What if he likes her more than me?" I questioned and he didn't seem to know what to say. "Why do you want to know all this anyway?" I asked him suspiciously.
"I have a proposition for you." He leaned forward, his heads resting on the desk. "In order for this to work I need to make sure that you are stable enough to handle this." I nodded for him to continue on and he began to explain the importance of the experiments he had been conducting and that he was going to let me out of Arkham to distract the GCPD of what he was doing behind closed doors. I was extremely skeptical, not wanting to put my friends in danger by going through with this.
"And what of Ed and Oswald?" I asked, not wanting them to fall victim to the experiments.
"They will be unharmed if you go along with this, although I cannot say the same for Miss Fishwick." I didn't really care as much about her so it didn't matter much to me. "Although I will need you to stay out of trouble while you are out of here. I need to the GDPD to see you as a rehabilitated patient."
"If I can't have any fun while I'm out what's the point?" I questioned. He smirked evilly and it gave me chills.
"Well, doing this could help me revive a certain Valeska." My eyes widened and in almost a heartbeat I was agreeing to whatever terms he set. If he had the power to bring Jerome back I would do anything.
