Jerome had decided that after the recent events my apartment wouldn't be safe for me. We had discussed and argued over potential buildings I could purchase, I had wanted to buy a standard house, not too far away and undercover but Jerome had other ideas. With his persistent influence, we had settled on a huge warehouse, one near the docks and concealed from public view. It was cold and bare, no furniture or anything else of the sort but Jerome was certain that with some renovations this would be the ultimate hideout.
I was still recovering. It hadn't been long since the incident and it still stung with the pain of a brutal memory. Oswald had gracefully allowed us to stay at his home while we waited for the renovations on the warehouse to be complete. The whole ordeal had cost me almost a million dollars, only a small dent in dad's savings but money all the same. Gotham Gazette was still making money and considering I was no longer a patient in an Asylum the profits went directily into my own bank account.
The warehouse was finally refurnished and we were able to leave Oswald's home and move in. He waited in front of the car he'd paid one of his men to drive, a small smile adorning his features. He truly was a generous man, I was very aware of the conniving past he had created and I knew that he wasn't doing this for free. Jerome and I had offered him a deal, we would carry out the assassinations his men refused to do.
"Thank you so much for letting us stay with you, it was so kind of you I really appreciate it." I thank him with a hug and kiss him on the cheek.
"It was my pleasure friend. After all you've... Experienced." I touched my scar and gave him a small smile. I hop into the car, my belongings already waiting for me at the warehouse. Jerome and Selina said their goodbyes and we were off to our new home.
Pulling up to the warehouse was like stopping in the middle of no where, without previous knowledge of its existence you would think that the building didn't exist at all. We climbed through the fire escape and entered the now beautiful warehouse, everything was exactly how we'd designed it and you could tell that it was our place.
Selina immediately ran to the door to her bedroom, throwing the door open and finding the room exactly how she'd wanted it, down to the small trinkets she'd insisted were 'unnecessary' but I'd insisted she'd gotten. I had even splurged for a theatre room, thinking that if we'd been banished to a warehouse it may as well be comfortable.
"Home sweet home." I mumble, looking around at the surprisingly welcoming sight.
"It looks perfect." Jerome replies, pulling me closer and placing a kiss to the side of my head. He touches my scar accidentally and I wince away from him. "I'm sorry."
"It's ok, it doesn't really hurt anymore-" He interrupts me as the two of us find our way to our room.
"No, I mean I'm sorry you had to go through that, all of it." His eyes were downcast and I stepped toward him, forcing his eyes on mine.
"That wasn't your fault." I kissed him lightly on the lips and smiled against them. "No one is to blame but him." The night had fallen, the three of us having to leave within the shadows of the darkness to ensure that wherever Edward may be that he isn't coming back for me.
"I will murder him, chop him into tiny pieces and-"
"Jerome please, I don't want to talk about it." I ran a hand through my hair and gave him another smile. He pulled me into him and guided me over to the bed. I quickly changed into my pajamas, and got ready for bed. "Goodnight Selina!" I called out from where I stood outside my door.
"Night Kat!" She shouted in return and I hopped into bed. Jerome pulled me into him lightly, his arm draping over my stomach and I traced patterns on his skin with my fingers.
