6. Vampires Don't Sleep

ELENA

"You need to feed." Carlisle states.

"She's tried, animal blood makes it worse. It doesn't do anything but cause more problems." Esme says stroking my hair.

"She's not going to get any better without human blood, even if Bella doesn't show up again. The scent lingers, it'll continue to weaken her until it kills her." Jasper gives me a sympathetic look.

"If she gets started back with human she won't go back to-"

"She can't go back to animal blood. It's either human blood or ultimately die." Rosalie cuts Carlisle off harshly.

"I've already seen it Carlisle." Alice starts. "Without human blood, Elena will die." Emmett clenches his jaw and I give his hand a reassuring squeeze. He rubs the pad of his thumb across my knuckles and softly smiles at me. I weakly force a smile at him.

"I might have a bag in my office, if not I'll have to make a run to the hospital." Carlisle states before leaving the room. Esme continues to gently stroke my hair in a very motherly manner. My eyes flutter a few times but Emmett squeezes my hand tightly to keep me awake.

Vampires don't sleep Elena.

"We're in luck, I had a bag, but this is the only one. I'll have to start saving up." Carlisle announces as he walks in.

"You're not going to get better right off the bat, it'll take a few minutes, but it'll help." Jasper states.

"Help me sit up." I whisper hoarsely. Emmett and Esme help me sit slowly. Emmett keeps a hand on my back and holds my arm with the other to keep me stabilized.

"Don't drink it too fast." Rosalie says. The scent of it makes my throat burn but I push past it and drink the contents of what is now in a to-go cup. I feel my strength returning to my body and the burning slowly dissipates. I relax and set down the empty cup.

"Jasper lied, it hasn't even been a whole minute and I already feel fine." I shrug. Emmett wraps his arm around me before kissing my temple. "I mean I don't feel amazing but I don't feel like shit either."

"You feel better, that's what's important." Esme states. I nod before leaning against Emmett.

"I'll have to keep stock in my office. Since she can't go back animal blood without getting sick." Carlisle says. I nod, closing my eyes for a few seconds. "Do you still feel up for baseball tomorrow?"

"Hell yeah." I state opening my eyes. He smiles and nods. Esme lightly rubs my back before patting it and getting up. They leave the room, only Emmett, Rosalie, and I remain.

"Bella might be there." Rosalie states.

"I don't care." I reply.

"I don't think it's safe if Bella's there for you to go Elena." Emmett states.

"I'll be fine, besides, it's been a while since I played last, I really want to go." I say.

"It's not safe." He retorts.

"It'll be fine."

"I don't want to risk it." He says.

"I'll stay away from her as much as possible, but I really want to go. I haven't played in two years Emmett." I look at him with sad, pleading eyes.

"Rosalie, why aren't you helping me?" Emmett glances at the blonde.

"Because I'm honestly with El on this one. Hell even if being near Bella does effect her, she can just kill Bella." Rosalie states. "She won't be punished when Aro hears about it, they'll just kill Edward and we can all move on with our lives."

"Hmm, tempting idea." I muse.

"Don't even think about." Emmett snaps.

"It's a free country little brother." I pat his shoulder.

"You can go tomorrow. Just stay away from her as much as possible." He sighs. I smile before kissing his cheek.

"I knew you'd come around." I beam.
