homecoming game night

"Our home team, Oakland Tigers!" The announcer calls. He begins calling off the names of my teammates.

"Grayson Dolan!" I jog out, scanning the crowd for Layla.

I spot her, smiling widely. I wave, and she slightly waves back. She's next to my brother. I'm surprised he even came.

"Yo, is your brother tryna steal her from you?" Daniel asks.

"What? No way. He knows that I wanna take her to homecoming tomorrow. He's not a bad guy." I chuckle.

after the game

"Wooo! Go Tigers!" Everyone from our side cheers.

I jog out to the center of the field with the megaphone. The cheerleaders behind me, paired with football players. Everyone stares at me.

"Give me a L!" I say into the megaphone.

"L!"

"Give me an A!"

"A!"

"Give me a Y!"

"Y!"

"Give me another L!"

"L!"

"Give me another A!"

"A!"

"What's that spell?"

"Layla!"

Everyone steps away from Layla, who looks around, and then at me. She's clearly confused.

"When I say 'home' you say 'coming!'" I say into the megaphone. "Home!"

"Coming?" Everyone shouts.

"Home!"

"Coming?"

Layla smiles.

"So, what do you say, Layla? Want to go to homecoming with me?"

She shakes her head, laughing. Without answering, she walks off of the bleachers.

I look around, embarrassed. I shove the megaphone at Daniel, jogging over to Layla. "Wait, you didn't answer my question." I say.

She smiles. "Where's the megaphone?"

I wave Daniel over. He hands it to her. Layla steps back, lifting it up to the air. "Yes!"

Everyone cheers, and I smile. She lowers the megaphone and smiles at me. Layla winks, then hands the megaphone back before walking away.
