❝sometimes there might be a second chance because maybe time wasn't ready for the first one❞
♥
Chloe stood at the corner of the street, her brown locks blowing softly in the wind. She smoothed down the crisp white blouse she was wearing and pulled her cardigan closer to her body.
Her eyes wandered around, taking in her surroundings as people silently brushed past.
It had been seventeen years. Seventeen years after she left the small town she grew up in, and all it's people. Seventeen years after she gave up.
During her time in England, she had shed her shell and became someone new. She had finally gotten over the death of her mother.
But not him.
Sure, she dated other people and buried herself in countless activities, nothing made her forget. And so she kept remembering. Kept regretting her last minute decision in packing up and leaving.
Never forgetting.
Sometimes she wondered if he still remembered. If he forgot. If he took her advice and found someone. Someone else.
The thought of that brought a wave of jealousy over her, but she soon learned to accept it. After all, it was her own words that told him to move on.
Chloe's eyes scanned the assortment of shops, before spotting one that made her body freeze.
It was a cafe.
A short laugh came out of her throat as she remembered the first time she saw him. A bitter smile played on her lips as her heart clenched.
She wavered, contemplating on whether or not to go in. With a brief sigh and the sag of her shoulders, she weaved past the people walking past and burst into the shop. Once she entered, she faltered in her step and stood awkwardly. A wave of nostalgia washed over her, and she soon found herself walking towards her usual seat in the back near the window.
"Would you like anything?"
Chloe raised her head and stared at the waiter, patiently holding his notepad and his pen clicking in his hand. She opened her mouth, hesitating a bit. Before she could think, her order came flying out of her mouth.
"A vanilla latte please."
Her latte was soon placed neatly in front of her, an embroidered napkin slipped under it. She peered into it and smiled. It was just like she always had it, with a swirl of honey in the middle.
Smiling wistfully to herself, she raised it to her lips and took a sip. She reached into her bag and pulled out her sleek silver laptop and opened a new document. Fingers poised above the keyboard, she began to write.
Right as she was beginning to indulge into the words on her page, a loud cough brought her out of her reverie. Scowling, she raised her head to tell the person off. But her voice got caught in her throat.
She was met with a pair of grey eyes.
Chloe swallowed. "Um... hi?"
The man in front of her took a deep breath, as if preparing for a speech. She was ready for it. She was ready for whatever came out of his mouth. But what did come out wasn't anything Chloe was ready for.
"Here I am! What were your other two wishes?" He announced, grinning.
Chloe gawked at him for a millisecond, confused, but quickly shut her mouth. Her lips curled into a small smile.
"For you to be charming and handsome. I guess not all wishes come true." She replied, a sense of deja vu washing over her.
"Do you know karate? Cause your body is kickin'!"
Chloe raised an eyebrow in question. The man just smiled.
"I do actually. Would your crotch like a demonstration?"
The man looked down at it, horrified. He quickly regained his composure. "Look at your keyboard." He gestured to her computer. "U and I are together."
Chloe's eyes followed his hand to her keyboard, before snorting. "Look below it. So is J and K."
"Let me be the reason you're up all night." He winked playfully.
"You will be. I always wake up when I have nightmares." Chloe smiled innocently.
"I can see forever in your eyes." The man announced dramatically, placing a hand over his heart.
"But all I can see is never in yours." Chloe said flatly.
"I know how to please a woman." He wiggled his eyebrows.
"Then please leave me alone." Chloe retorted, rolling her eyes, but smiling nevertheless.
The man leaned forward and rested his elbow on Chloe's table. "Can I have your name?"
Chloe arched an eyebrow. "Why? Don't you already have one?"
The man peered up at Chloe through his long, dark eyelashes as one side of his mouth tugged up in a small yet breathtaking smile.
"In fact, I do," He said softly, his finger reaching over to grasp one of Chloe's loose curls and tucking it behind her ear. "The name's Hunter."
