Though it's known for being a "welcoming" place; The Leaky Cauldron was dark, murky, and shabby on the inside. The main room on the ground floor had a bar and a variety of tables, and down the narrow hall was a private parlor. A grand fireplace set against the wall; the very same ashy pit Severus and Cassiopeia had just climbed out off. They wiped the soot from the their hands and discarded their cloaks, which they handed off to the pubs live-in maid. She accepted them under a throaty protest, marching away with large hips swaying. She mumbled under her breath; nothing auditable to the onlookers ears, but Severus was sure he heard her voice something along the lines of- "I'm not a bloody house elf, I can't just poof here and poof there, snap my fingers and poof be gone."
He idoly wondered if she was a squib or just another irate servant not earning enough pay.

From the ground floor, a handsome wooden staircase lead up to the guest rooms. Each door baring a brass number. Each lodge contained comfortable beds, polished oak furniture, and a fireplace with a mirror that talked in a 'wheezy voice.' From the windows, both the Muggle street of Charing Cross Road, and the wizarding lane of Diagon Alley could be seen and heard.

The 'tiny' and 'grubby'-looking building was sandwhiched between a book shop and a record shop; where passing Muggles were blind to it's permanent structural placement. They seemed unable to see it with their unkeen, unobservent nature; Muggles missed everything. Today however, buisness was at an all time low.

Owned and run by a toothless old man named Tom, the tavern usually saw quite a lot of traffic and was frequently crowded. While it was partly attributed to its reputation as a welcoming place, it was also the location as a hub for Diagon Alley. The Muggle-born wizards constantly arriving by foot or underground, had to pass through the Leaky Cauldron in order to reach Diagon Alley. Fireplaces there; like the fireplace Severus and Cassi had just ghosted out of in a violent tirade of bright beaming green light- served as the Floo connection between Diagon Alley and the rest of the wizarding world.

However, after Voldemort's return to power, the Leaky Cauldron lost a lot of business. Once crowded during the days, and filled to capacity at night- instead, it now typically sat empty.
