White. So much white. So much so, it was blindingly bright to one's eye. Cassiopeia was conscious and aware of her surroundings in the West wing of St. Mungos. She'd been there for a better part of a month now. She wasn't exactly sure because no-one was saying, but she'd come to the conclusion that it was her mental state that they wouldn't allow her to leave. She was still mourning over the sudden loss of Lucius and was now being taking care of around the clock. Avery, was worried the most. He was afraid the link between Malfoy's death and Regulus' would be to much for her to handle.
She'd missed New Year's, not that she cared. Most everyone was back to their assigned posts. Yaxley and Travers resumed their guard in the Ministry, tail tagging Pius. Severus had returned to Hogwarts, and she'd only spoken to him by owl on a few occasions. Rabastan and Rodolphus had visited twice, re-securing the protection wards and giving her updates on the going on's outside. Of course Avery was there. He'd been there through it all. Through all the maddening pokes and prods of the needles, the endless amounts of blood tests and analysis, to the uncomfortably awkward spreading of the legs. If she had to show Penelope her twat one more time she would demand a date, dinner and desert.
Yet, of all the torturing ways the Pixie like lady was forcing upon Cassi- though for a good purpose, it still felt invasive- Avery looked far worse than she did. More depressed and sullen, even.
"Avery, are you going to tell me what the bloody hell is going on in that mind of yours? You look thin, your not eating, and frankly, you're starting to smell."
He looked up from the solace of his hands to the bluntness Cassi exhibited and hesitated in answering. Luckily for him, he was saved by Nurse Ratchet herself.
"Ms. Black. I'm sorry..... Cassiopeia. I've got the latest test results." Penelope flipped through a thick folder, scanning over the words on the pages.
Avery was by Cassi's side in a split second, taking her hand in his. He got up so fast that the cold metal chair clanked to the floor. The Pixie Po sat on the edge of the bed and inspected Cassi's feet and toes.
"Po, just get on with it will you." Cassi chastised her.
"Alright. Alright. As we discussed, on this last day in January, the day of 31, you are an estimated 31 weeks. You'll be 8 months along in 2 more weeks."
"Yes?" Cassi encouraged her to go on.
Penelope cleared her throat, quickly immersing into text book readings with no emotion.
"This week, the gestation of your baby should measure over 16 inches long and weigh a tad over 3 pounds. About the size of a coconut. This is the period in time that the youngling should be heading into a growth spurt. Turning the head from side to side. The arms, legs, and body should be beginning to plump up as needed fat accumulates underneath the skin."Cassiopeia interrupted.
"The child does move, a lot. I have trouble sleeping because the baby kicks and somersaults all evening long. I had taken comfort that all this moving was a sign that the baby is active and healthy. Are you trying to tell me otherwise?" She snipped, Avery squeezing her hand tighter.
