A/N: My child has a sense of humor; she slipped in a funny passage. Your quest? Can you find it? LOL..... Because I laughed for half an hour when I came across it during proofreading... Left it for you all to find!
Every child's birth is full of emotion, but for those few expecting one baby, only to end up with two; there's a unique set of overwhelming feelings that accompany that moment. With Cassiopeia, the particular event had sent serious chills through not just her- but everyone involved. More moving than the birth itself though, was Snape's emotional reaction to holding his son and daughter for the first time. His expression brought even Poppy to tears before she even learned of the experiences leading up to that moment. It was to say the least— a completely chill-inducing and gorgeous scene that Cassiopeia and Severus would cherish forever.
Severus didn't get to spend much alone time with the two tiny bundles before Poppy insisted they be taken back to the NICU. However, that brief amount of time he did managed to steal could've been hours long rather than minutes in his mind.
It was surreal.
He reached out to touch them one by one; gently grazing his palm over the dark fuzzy hair of his baby girl. Then he leaned over to the twin and the little hand of his son raised up and gripped his teensy hand tightly around Severus' finger. He would never forget that moment of their first touch. They were so warm and alive. So innocent, sweet, and small. It was overwhelming how such a tiny being could have such a profound effect on a grown man. He wasn't normally the type to show his emotions, but the itty-bitty pocket sized newborns had peeled through his layers and torn down his wall with just one look.
It was different; that love. Not like that love for your mate, mum, or significant other. It was more of a 'no-matter what' kind of love. There was no comparison to any other relationship like that of his instant bond with his wee children. Already the half-pints had made him more fearless and fearful than he ever thought he could be. He felt his heart expand and instantaneous happiness consumed him; despite what was going on in the Wizarding World around him. It was indescribable; a total adrenaline rush. Love at first sight, pure amazement, unconditional love, and the strongest possible bond imaginable.
Then Poppy was clearing her throat; urging Cassiopeia and Severus to say their goodbyes. She was worried that her superior would notice the preemies missing and thus, start snooping around. The story was: that a Muggle born had been brought into the ward in preterm labour and was one of the Witches listed to go before the Ministry under scrutiny of proving blood status. St. Mungo's, not being prejudices towards the new laws being held against Mudbloods were keeping the ailing Mother and the twins hidden. It would do no-one involved any good should the Head Nurse begin digging around and uncover the truth. Besides, there was also the fact that after such a traumatic event, everyone needed their rest-- Cassiopeia especially. Her babies would be under secure supervision by the Pixie-like Midwife. Though Cassi wouldn't admit it- after the chaos that occurred- she and Poppy had sort of bonded in their own way. She may very well be looking at her first friendship with a female. A woman she actually trusted. Trusted enough to take her twinkies away and feel confident they would both return healthy and in one piece.
