Meeting Emma the night before was amazing – she was funny and sweet and she and I got on really well. She got on a little bit too well with Ryder also which kind of scared me, but I had a feeling she wouldn’t try to make a move on him.

The feeling kept on wavering though so I honestly had no idea.

I was very happy I had met Ryder’s new friend, and I was glad that he was actually making friends. I had noticed he always had struggled with things like that. I was going to have to meet the other friend, Jeff, properly soon too.

I was lying across the couch on my phone, scrolling through Facebook, bored and waiting for Ryder to come home from school. Nothing was happening online, beside that Angie and Melissa were having a conversation in the comments sections of one of Melissa’s statuses about how she was sick.

The door to the house clicked open as soon as I let out a heavy sigh of boredom and when I looked up, I saw Ryder walking through the door, pulling his bag behind him as always. I sat up and waved at him. “Hey, baby.” I got to my feet and walked over, digging my face into his shoulder as I wrapped my arms around his back.

“Hello Marley.” Ryder kissed the side of my face and ran his hands over my back, sneaking his fingers underneath my shirt.

I pulled back from him suddenly and tugged his cold hand from underneath my shirt. “No, Ryder!” I shouted, slapping his hand lightly. Ryder pouted, and I knew he was going to complain about how rejected he felt, so I leaned forward and kissed him to shut him up.

Ryder smiled at me as I pulled away from his lips, grinning too. He shot his hand forward, wrapping it around my waist just to pull me close again. I nudged his nose with mine and ducked my head to rest it on his shoulder, whispering, “I missed you today,” under my breath.

“I missed you too, hon.” Ryder murmured against my hair. “Also Emma said she had a lot of fun last night, too, you know? The first thing she said to me this morning actually.”

I looked Ryder right in the eyes, my own widening. “Really?” I whispered in disbelief, a small grin growing on my face.

“Yeah, Mar. It was fun, I don’t blame her for enjoying herself.” Ryder chuckled, unwrapping his arms from me and bending down to pick up his bag again, his mood suddenly turning kind of… bad. “I have to do my homework now though. You don’t mind do you?”

“No, of course not!” I shouted, taking his face in my hands and giving his lips a final, quick peck before jumping up the step in the kitchen. I watched as Ryder pulled his stuff over to the couch and spread all of his work around him, a big worried frown on his face. I contemplated on asking him if he wanted anything to eat because he looked like he was getting in the zone and I didn’t want to disturb him. In the end, I decided to ask him.

Ryder didn’t even look up from his book when he replied. “Nah thanks, Mar.”

I shrugged to myself as I pulled out a bottle of water and took a few big  gulps. I walked back to the couch,  jumped over Ryder’s feet and cleared a small space for me to seat.

The show on TV was boring me, so I picked up my phone and began to flick through Facebook again even though everything there was boring.

Ryder began to actually start working on his homework after spending a couple of minutes planning himself out, and when he began to think, his forehead creased into more of a frown than before.

I hadn’t seen him this concentrated before because even in class the previous, he never seemed to be thinking this hard. His heavy frowning was very adorable, but I kind of wanted to tell him that it was bad for his skin, that he would get frown lines, but then I realized how stupid I would sound.
