Dee's POV

the next morning

Turns out Trent is really understanding. We just had an instant connection, I felt like he wouldn't try to use my past against me. I talked him into getting Soundcloud so he could listen to some of my older songs. He said his favorite was the reject mixtape. Considering what I just told him, I knew he'd pick that one. We listened to it three times before I fell asleep.

I woke up and immediately looked at my phone to see if Trent was still on the phone. He ended up hanging up after I fell asleep, I had a text from him though:

t: hey, hope you sleep great. text me when you wake up

I smiled down at my phone and typed a reply:

d: thanks for keeping me company :)

I set my phone down and get out of my bed, walking to the bathroom to brush my teeth. When I'm finished, I walk back to my room and grab my phone. I have two message notifications. One from my best friend Kiara and the other from Darian:

k: hey, wanna go to the mall later?
d: what time?
k: any time is fine
d: ok cool

I swipe over to the other conversation.

dar: can we talk now?
dee: there's nothing to talk about.
dar: there's lots to talk about.
dee: fine, let me rephrase. there's nothing i want to talk about.
dar: why not? we're gonna have to talk about it eventually
dee: i'll be perfectly fine if we don't
dar: you're being complicated.
dee: exactly. bye.
dar: please talk to me.
dee: i don't think that's a good idea.

My phone vibrates again but I ignore it and put it back on my bed.

3 o'clock

Ki is my best friend, we've known each other since fifth grade and she's the only one who hasn't switched up on me. She means a ton to me and I've missed her a lot throughout the weeks. Plus a bonus is she's already 16 so she can drive me places.

I go to my dresser to get my wallet and carmex and walk down the stairs. I'm sitting on the couch and hear a ding on my phone.

k: here
d: k im coming

"Mom, I'm leaving!" I yell up the stairs. I wait for a reply and when she tells me okay, I walk out of the door and get into Ki's car. "Hey Dee!" I laugh at her, " Hey Ki, missed you tons." She smiles and gives me the aux to plug into my phone. " Play whatever you want," she tells me. I take that as my signal to go and bump Schoolboy Q all the way to the mall.

Ki parks the car and looks down at her phone, "Dang, my phone's on 10%," she says sighing. I unplug my phone from the aux and look at my phone to finally open the notification that I had gotten earlier that day.

dar: wanna meet somewhere later?

I roll my eyes and lock my phone again, "So what are you gonna do?" I ask Ki. She shrugs, " I may have one in the trunk." She gets out of the car and goes to the trunk, coming back with her portable charger. She laughs, "Thank God." I laugh and get out of the car. "Dee grab my wallet out of the console please." I grab it and get out of the car. She locks the car door and we walk into the mall.

The entire time, I decide to explain to her my whole trip, including the parts about Trent and I. She gives me her undivided attention and laughs at parts that are funny and shocked at parts that are shocking. I'm currently telling her about Trent's jokes in the airport when my phone vibrates:

t: hey, wanna hang out?
d: well i'm at the mall rn
t: good, I'm omw
d: if you say so.

I interrupt my own story to tell Ki that Trent is coming to the mall as well, "Hey Ki, speaking of Trent, he said he's on his way." She looks at me, "Really? Cool, I finally get to meet this crush of yours." I stop walking, "Um no, we're just friends, that's gross." She shrugs and starts laughing.

About half an hour later, we're in the line at the food court and I decide that I want Wendy's. When I finished ordering, I waited for Ki and we walked to our table. A few moments after eating, my phone rings, I figured it was Darian so I ignored it and kept talking. All of a sudden a pair of hands cover my eyes. I gasp and Ki begins to laugh. I remove the hands to see Trent grinning at me, "So we're ignoring each other's calls now?" he asks. I roll my eyes at his comment and look down at my phone. Ki coughs and I remember I forgot to introduce them, "Oh my bad, Ki this is Trent. Trent, this is my bestfriend Kiara." They shake hands and then both look at me. I shrug my shoulders, "What?" Trent shakes his head, "Nothing." Ki looks around and suddenly her eyes go into a stare. I snap in front of her eyes. Nothing happens. "Ki..ki!" She looks at me, "Uh, we gotta go." Trent and I turn around and follow the direction of her eyes but no one was there.

I nod at Ki and then stand up and grab my wallet and throw my trash away, " We can just meet back at my house guys." Ki nods and Trent tells us he'll meet us there. We walk out to her car and both get in. Before she starts the car I stop her, "What was that all about?" She sighs and nervously looks around, "Darian was in there."
