Dee's POV

I'm greeted by my family and some of my closest school friends. The ones that didn't fold or switch up. I walk into the living room, seeing the face that I hoped to never see again : Darian.

Darian is my ex. We broke up two weeks before I left and haven't talked since. He's one of the reasons I do what I do. He's one of those who didn't think I could win. Why he's sitting on my couch watching reruns of The Rap Game, I'll never know. I'm gonna try my hardest to find out though. I walk past him and upstairs to my room. I sit on my bed and think. My phone dings and I look down at it:

conversation
t: hey dee
d: hey bud
t: wyd
d: sitting on my bed bc i don't want to go to the party downstairs
t: why not?
d: long story
t: i have time :)
d: nah it's okay, really i'm good.
t: if you say so
d: we can talk later
t: bet

"Mom! Come here please!" I yell down the stairs. No response. Now that I think about it, it is quieter downstairs. "Mom!" I try again. Still no answer. I sit back on my bed and sigh.

My door slowly opens. Wonderful. It's Darian.

I look up at him, "yes?" He sighs, " I just thought you should know, your mom is outside, that's why she didn't hear you." I shrug and look at the door, "that's all? okay bye. " He sighs again. I look a him confused, "Do you need like an asthma pump or something? Like you good?" He laughs. His laugh just brings back memories. "Yeah I'm good, but I want to know if we can talk?" I look back down at my phone, "About?" He opens the door a little more, "Us." I laughed, "Us? There isn't an us? What are you talking about?" He sighs again, "There was a long time ago, and I feel like there could be in the future." I look up from my phone at him, "You're kidding right?" He chuckles, "Nah I'm serious." I shrug, "Maybe another time, could you get out? Close the door behind you." He nods and leaves the room. My phone buzzes.

conversation
t: is it later yet?
d: not necessarily
t: can it be my definition of later?
d: 😂 you wild
t: that's a bad thing?
d: i don't feel like typing tbh
t: facetime?x

Before I can reply, my phone begins to ring and he's trying to facetime me. I hesitate but answer it, telling him the full story, nothing left out.
