Noir

Its been months since I had some action. Recently I had gotten word from Tiamat that there’s a group of slayers near by breaking eggs and killing dragons. After hearing the words, I rushed to the opportunity to go. With me was my closest friend, Shadow. He was a year older than me and kept silent as a mouse. I had no right to complain though. The term “silent but deadly” applied well for him.

I made him stay in his human form, which annoyed him. He practically ignored me for half our journey. He was pretty tall, nearly a head taller than me. His messy black hair ran down his neck and his bangs fell lazily over his eyes. The tips of his hair looked almost like it was spraypainted on. His eyes were a dim red when he tried very hard not to make them like his dragon’s. “Noir, remind me to kill you when we go home,” he murmured after hours of silence.

I grinned up at him, “Oh shush you.”

He rolled his eyes at me as he walked. We walked through the forest near where the first attack had happened. Shadow looked away at the rotting stench of the lifeless dragon. “How much further?”

I looked around and tried sensing the energies of the slayers that were there. “Hmm..? That way.” I raised a hand and pointed to where the eggs were smashed. I beamed up at Shadow. “Race you!” then I took off without waiting for his response but I could imagine his judging gaze as he shook his head at my idiocy. I heard his footsteps behind me as he followed.

Pretty soon I heard voices up ahead. I strained to listen as I slowed down and put a hand out to Shadow’s chest to make him stop. It was quiet around as I listened. Two men and two women. Oooo one of them sounds fineeee.

Shadow smacked my back like he knew what I was thinking. When I looked up at him, grinning, he shook his head and put a finger to his lips. “Let’s just-”

Without letting him finish, I walked out of the shadows to the group. “Heyyo!”

From the corner of my eye, I could see Shadow facepalm himself as he followed, silently probably questioning how he ended up with me as his friend.

The man who seemed to be the leader of the group looked over. He flashed a charming grin and got up to face me. He had been soaking his undershirt in the water of the stream behind him, I could see the outline of his muscles through the tightened fabric. “Well well well..what do we have here? Two more slayers to join us?”

Hot damn, calm yourself, Noir. I grinned at him. “Course, couldn’t miss out on the fun now could we?” I said in excitement as I elbowed Shadow who remained silent as he looked over each and every one of them. His gaze was intense. He could be intimidating sometimes just by his gaze.

He chuckled. “You missed the excitement, we already smashed the eggs.” He said smiling playfully. He walked over to Shadow and I, grinning. “My name’s Knight...and this is my team,” he said their name’s pointing to each of the other three. “my sister, Karma, Reaction, and Eryx the newbie.” the one called Eryx scowled at him and threw a small acorn at his head. The women laughed playfully at him.

I grinned and looked over at them. “Hey! I’m Noir and this is my closest friend, Shadow.”

I noticed Shadow looking at Karma. The look in his eyes softened when he saw her. The moment he noticed I was watching, he closed up again and looked away.

I resisted the urge to embarrass him as I looked each one over. My gaze stopped on Reaction. I tilted my head curiously, Is she… I didn’t want to say anything so I looked back at the hottie, Knight.

Knight chuckled and looked to me with a charming smile. “What brings you all the way out here? We haven’t seen civilization for miles.” he said folding his arms. “Are there more slayer groups out in these forests?”

“Nope, we just travelled a long way.” I looked over at Shadow as if mentally asking him to say something.

Shadow glanced down at Noir and rolled his eyes as he walked to the broken eggs to have a look.

I watched him go as I rubbed the back of my head. “Forgive him, he’s not much of a talker. He’s more of a silent but deadly, hands on kinda guy.”

Knight raised an eyebrow. “No wonder. He seemed to be intimidating. I uh...would offer some food but sadly, our newblood here decided to forget the meat at home.”

I heard Eryx yell “Did not!” from the log he had been sitting on. Knight shook his head.

“Anywho...If you don’t mind sticking around for hunting some actual game...we could have some dinner tonight before we head back to our home. Unless you were just passing through?”

I looked him over up and down as I nodded. “Oh I’ll definitely be staying. I’ve seen mighty interesting things.” Mighty interesting indeed…
