Eliza pov:

Eliza rolled over there was a cold space right beside her. She reached out to try and find her husband but he wasn't in grasp. She slowly opened her eyes to find it still dark in the room along with no sight of her husband. She shook her head and sighed softly. She sat up slowly and glanced towards the doorway. She could see a soft light from a room down the hall. She almost instantly knew where the man was. In his office. She slowly climbed out of bed and walked down the hallway. She saw him there and sighed softly. She walked in and leaned against the doorway.

"Alexander come back to sleep.." She called softly.

Alexander didn't turn around to look at his wife. He just continued to write something down, his muscles sort of tense. "I have an early meeting out of town.." He just said softly.

Eliza frowned. It seemed unlikely since the man hadn't mentioned it. "It's still dark outside.."

"I know.. I just need to write something down..'' Alexander said softly. He now turned to look at his wife hearing her enter the room now.

"I know..I just need to write something down.." He said softly.

Eliza looked at the paper and she couldn't read what it said. But there was a lot on the piece of paper. "Why do you write like you're running out of time..?" Eliza asked softly.

Alexander's face was a slight pale shade. Eliza hadn't noticed this when she walked into the room. "Shh.." Alexander said softly as if she was being really noisy. But she wasn't she didn't want to wake her children.

Eliza sighed softy. "Come back to bed that would be enough.." She walked to him wrapping her arms around Alexander.

Alexander leaned into the embrace of his wife. "I'll be back before you know you know I'm gone.."

"Come back to sleep.." Eliza pleaded her stomach beginning to tell her that something just wasn't right with this. She just wanted her husband to be back by her side. Holding her while she slept. That's all that she could possibly want right now. She didn't want him to write. She didn't want him to leave. She just wanted him by her side.

"This meeting is at meeting is at dawn.." Alexander said. His voice trailing off. It was clear that his mind was wherever this meeting was. It was not where she was. She knew there wasn't any sense in trying to get her husband to come back to bed with her.

"Well I'm going back to sleep.." She said as she detached her arm and pulled herself away. She turned to walk out of the room and closed her eyes.

She was surprised to feel her husband grab her wrist. "Hey.." He called to her. Her eyes flew open and she turned around looking at him. "Best of wives... and best of women.." She felt her face flush a small red. He always had a way with words. She was always helpless because of him.

He let her hand go and sighed softly. He turned back to his paper and turned back to his paper. She turned back away and walked back to their room. She climbed back into bed and took a deep breath. She nuzzled herself into the bed and closed her eyes. She slowly fell back to sleep.

At dawn, a sound rattled her bones. A single gunshot. Her eyes flew open. She instantly felt sick as she ran out of bed and felt tears fill her eyes. She ran into the office and saw the piece of paper from earlier. But now, it was folded up with her name on it. She dashed to it and opened it beginning to read it. Her eyes widened and she let out a loud cry.

She didn't know how she heard it. He was in New Jersey. But somehow, it woke her up. He was here only an hour ago..

Now, he'll never be back..
