{[ Hey quick author note. It's a modern A.U.]}

Jefferson's Pov:

Thomas was back from France, and he was excited to be home. He took a deep breath of the Virginian wind that was blowing through his hair.

Not only was he back, but he was on a mission. He had to find his best friend. James Madison. They had been best friends since they were children. They went to school together until Thomas had grown obsessed with the idea of going to France.

James, had not wanted him to go, in fear he would forget him. But Thomas had not. How could he? He had wrote James letters, once in awhile, he even got a response.

But here he was, standing on American soil now. He hadn't told James that he was coming. He flagged down a taxi from the airport. He grabbed his suitcase getting in the back seat.

"Where ya headed?" The taxi driver asked. His voice sounded gruff but Thomas didn't mind. He said James' address clearly, just like every other time he had said it. Since his mom needed him to repeat it everytime they went to James' house. The taxi driver just nodded and began driving.

Thomas looked eagerly outside the window, so excited to be home. He looked and tried reading every sign. Eventually, he kept seeing one go passed. He got interested and began reading it, everytime one went by.

'Equality...Rally.. Today at....5...at....on 3rd street...'  Then it had a beautiful rainbow flag was beneath it.

Now that was the only thing that Thomas hadn't mentioned to his best friend. He was gay, and he wasn't afraid to stand up for his rights.

He was almost nervous about telling James. He didn't want him to hate him, or even worse, stop being his friend. Thomas chewed on his lip nervously. He needed to go to this equality rally. He'd find some excuse on leaving, no matter how badly he might not want too.

Thomas hadn't realized that the taxi had stopped in front of a nice white house. "Here's your stop."

Thomas immediately blinked out of his thoughts. "Oh, thank you sir."

"That'll be $10.32 please." The taxi driver said glancing back at Thomas through the mirror.

Thomas pulled out his wallet giving the man 11 dollars instead. "Keep the change." Thomas said before getting out of the car. He grabbed his suitcase before hurrying up the lawn to the porch. Thomas took a deep breath and knocked. He remembered doing this quite a lot when he was little. Waiting for James to answer the door. Finally, the door opened and James' face appeared. "Surprise!" Thomas practically screamed.

James' jaw dropped and he quickly teared up. "Thomas!"

"James!" Thomas opened his arms for the smaller male. Lord, James' personality hadn't changed much, which was good. James wrapped his arms around Thomas tightly.

"I thought I was never going to see you again! You said you liked  France so much!"

Thomas let out a small chuckle. "I had to come back, couldn't let my dear friend be emotional by himself for forever.." Thomas teased. He blushed softly noticing they hadn't let go of each other yet. But James looked so content with his head on Thomas' chest.. Thomas felt his face heating up. He can't feel like this. James would never understand. James finally pulled away.

"Well you left me for long enough." James lightly nudged him.

"Well my bad." Thomas grinned.

"It is your bad, come on in." James turned walking back into the house. Thomas followed. God, the house hadn't even hardly changed. They sat on the couch and caught up, and talked about memories they had.

Finally, time passed and Thomas glanced at the time. 4:30. Thomas' eyes flew open and he stood up. "My God..."

James stared at him confused. "What is it?"

"I need to go, it's been a wonderful time, I'll call you later, dinner maybe? Sleep over? What ever sounds cool to you." Thomas rambled and grabbed his suitcase.

"Alright, I have something I need to do any ways." He smiled softly. "Bye Thomas." Thomas just waved and hurried out, luckily his mother only lived a few houses down. His hurried inside and dug out his rainbow shirt that read, 'Suck my rainbow.' Thomas thought this shirt was quite humorous when he bought it. He put it on, keeping his black knee high shorts on. He looked in his mirror looking quite proud. He grabbed his keys and phone hurrying  out the door.

He got into his car driving to 3rd street. He began looking around. Finally, he saw an opening, at least 200 people were there with flags of all sorts. Bisexual, transgender, gay, and many more were flying up high. Thomas had a large grin on his face. He pulled his car off on the side of the road. He got out and hurried across the road to the group of people.

People liked Thomas' shirt. Mostly guys did, dropping hints to Thomas. Thomas just laughed most of them off. He felt someone tap his shoulder, when he turned around he didn't expect to see them standing there.

"James?!" Thomas was shocked to see his friend drapped in a rainbow flag, grinning up at him.

"Got something you need to tell me Thomas?" James asked raising a brow.

"Uh...I'm gay." Thomas said making it more awkward than it needed to be.

"Well, so am I. Surprise!" James said laughing slightly.

Thomas felt his heart racing like before. He felt his confidence boost and he took a deep breath. "Good than I can do this~" With that, he kissed James. James' eyes widened but he kissed back.

Awh, sweet romance~
