*Cole's POV*

My eyes flutter open suddenly, feeling heavy as my head throbs. Slowly, I manage to sit up from my comfortable position on my bed and take a glance at my alarm clock. 5am. Great. Mom should be happy that I'm still even going to school. What's the point of it? Ah hell, I'm to hungover to think right now anyway. I yank my thick blankets off of me and head towards the bathroom down the hallway.

The hard wooden floor was freezing cold against my bare feet as I held out my hands, trying to find my way to the bathroom door through the darkness. I did my morning routine and by the time I was done it was 7:30. I had 30 minutes left to get to school. I skip breakfast not having enough time to eat anyway, and quickly grab my car keys, speed walking out the front door.

Once I arrived at school I had just a few minutes to spare before the first bell rang. Immediately as I walk through the front doors, everyone freezes and stares. By everyone I mean all the girls. I wasn't stupid and I knew they only liked me because I was "popular" and the quarterback on our football team. None of them would even care to look pass my popularity and see the real me.

"Hi Cole." One of the girls said, fluttering her eyelashes as I walked by. I simply gave her a smile and the look on her face looked as if I had given her a gift from God himself. I ignored it and kept walking to my locker. It felt like everyone in the school had said "Hi" to me once I finally reached my locker. Believe me, I admired that people took a liking to me. But it can get annoying.

I mean sure, it looks like I have a lot of friends, but I don't personally trust any of them. Once I open my locker and grab my morning textbooks I hear a loud BANG right behind me. As the athlete I am, I quickly turn around and see my "friend" Nick pinning someone to a set of lockers. I couldn't quite see who it was, but they either had done something to really piss Nick off, or Nick was just in a bad mood.

"I said get the fuck out of my way!!" Nick yelled as he harshly let go of the person as they fall roughly on the floor.

It was a boy. Was he new? I don't recall ever seeing him around before.

He was wearing a big black hoodie with no hint of design and black skinny jeans with holes at the knees. He's dark black hair covered most of his face. Typical emo if you ask me. He was hugging his backpack against his chest as if his life depended on it. I squat down in front of him to get eye level with him.

"Are you alright?" I ask softly, trying not to frighten him more than he already was. He showed no emotion, he just sat there staring down at his hands not even looking up at me...

"Come on Cole, we got to go to class or we're going to be late." I heard my other "friend" David say as he yanked me upwards and started dragging me to class. When I glanced back behind me to look at the shy boy sitting on the cold floor emotionless, he was already gone...

The rest of the day seemed to go by slow as usual. By the time lunch came I felt as if I had aged 50 years. I hadn't seen the shy boy sense this morning which upset me. Once me, Nick, and David sat down at our usual table I immediately scan the cafeteria, looking for the shy boy. No luck. What's he do, skip lunch? Is that why he looked like nothing but skin and bones?

Why do I even care?!

"Dude Cole." David said grabbing my attention. "What the hell is wrong with you? You've seemed out of it all day." Nick nodded in agreement. "Out of what?" I asked, turning my attention back to scanning the cafeteria, not caring what they said. "Are you looking for someone?" David asked, sounding confused. I shook my head no before turning my attention back to my "friends."
