*Cole's POV*

Betrayed.

I truly felt betrayed by my own fucking friend. How could Nick do that to Ryan? How could anyone do that to someone so innocent?

I arrived at school earlier than usual so I could discuss matters with my counselor about changing my schedule. I wanted absolutely no classes with that pathetic excuse of a human being named Nick. She entered in my request and said that my schedule will be changed by tonight in the school system, and that I'll need to come to school early tomorrow morning to pick up my new schedule.

I had also tried to request that Ryan's schedule should be changed as well, but my counselor informed me that it wasn't my decision to make. It was Ryan's. Though, I knew he would want his schedule changed considering him and Nick share a few classes with each other. Just the thought of that caused my blood to boil.

Luckily, I had convinced Ryan to stay home today. I surely didn't want him missing too much of school because then he would become behind on all his work, but I definitely knew he wasn't comfortable coming back yet.

I was currently in our schools library, trying to find something for Ryan to read. He texted me earlier the book he wanted me to get him, but I was having trouble finding it. I wasn't ever good at searching for books.

"Having trouble?" Someone asked me. I turned around clearly startled before noticing it was a girl that I have never seen here before. Oh great. She had blonde hair that was in a braid, resting on her shoulder. She wore brown glasses that really made her eyes stand out, but not in the bad way of course.

"Um, yes actually. Can you help me find this?" I asked her while showing her the text message Ryan had sent me an hour ago.

She smiled at me, but it wasn't a flirtatious smile. She then walked a little ways to the left before standing on her tippy toes, pulling a pretty thick book off of the top shelf. There's absolutely no way in hell Ryan could have possibly reached that.

"Here you go." She smiled sweetly while handing me the book. "I'm Elaine by the way."

"It's nice to meet you." I said back. There was no need for me to introduce myself. She already knew me. Everyone does. "Are you getting that book for Ryan?" She asked which took me by surprise.

"Uh, yeah. How did you know?" I asked.

"I saw you two sitting in here next to each other the other week. I also saw you guys leave school together." She said, like she wasn't bothered by it at all.

"How do you know him?" I asked genuinely curious. Not many people even pay attention to him. "He's in my study hall. I was partnered with him one day and I helped him study for English. He wouldn't say anything though so it was just me reading definitions to him." She giggled.

She's laughing?  It wasn't the insult kind of laugh though, it was more like laughing kindly at the memory. Elaine noticed my confused expression before explaining. "Just because Ryan is shy doesn't give me any reason to hate him like everyone else does. From what I've seen, Ryan is very kind and wouldn't hurt anyone. I admire that." She smiled.
