PROLOGUE
I looked out of the window nervously. I hadn't felt this nervous since that time about a month ago when Fran suggested running away.
God, it's been the craziest month of my life since then.
It would've been the craziest month of anybody's life.My cell phone beeped twice, simlutabeously with a message each from Kon and Fran. One second later, it beeped again with one from Hermes. I could almost picture him in my mind, cursing because Fran and Kon's got through first. He'd blame his network, he'd blame my network, but he'd never admit to being a slower typer than them. He may even accuse Fran of distracting him in an almost PG-13 way.
Maybe she did try, you never knew with those two.
"Excuse me ma'am? You need to turn that off, we're ready for takeoff." The airhostess had a smile plastered onto her face, as if telling bratty phone-obssessed teens to switch off their phones was the best job on the planet.
"I'm sorry." I flushed a little. The old me would've flushed an awful lot.
I put the phone in flight mode and plugged in my earphones. Laying my head back, I started listening to music. I tried hard not to close my eyes, because I didn't want to see the pictures that may flash before me if I did.
I already knew they would.I knew which ones would.
Pictures of Kon, smiling.
Pictures of us running down the beach.
Pictures of Hermes when he climbed up on London Bridge and asked Fran out.
Pictures of Hector buying Marie a trinket that I'd chosen.
Pictures of him giving it to her.
Another picture of Kon smiling at me, the solitary dimple in his left cheek prominent, his blue eyes sparkling with amusement. That was the day we almost did it.I smiled remembering it.
And then, an unexpected picture- of me, that last day in France, holding the phone to my ear, straining to hear mum over all the static and the sound of her trying to control her emotions.
And again, another unexpected picture- of Dad, that last day before he left. He stood in our kitchen, talking to me.
Always go to the place that calls out to you, Leanna, he had said. With a start, I banished the pictures and opened my eyes, shaking my head.
Go to the place that calls out to you. Yeah, sure Dad. I was doing just that until you ruined it.I struggled with myself, trying not to go back to sleep. I knew what would happen if I did.
I took my phone and read my messages.Fran- Tell me when you land. Give Marge and my Dad a kiss and that little fucker a kick on the ass from my side.
Kon- Stay safe, and remember what I told you koritsi. :*
Hermes- If this reaches you after the others, just know that I have terrible network and that I love you and take care and don't come back for Fran I'm taking her back with me to Greece she doesn't want you anymore XD
I chuckled at the length.
And then he wonders why his message reached me after their's.I typed out a reply to each, knowing it wouldn't deliver until I landed.
And after that, I was utterly, completely, totally, jobless.I looked out the window. Clouds. More clouds. A strip of blue sky. Again more clouds. Bo-ring.
Then, my hand brushed my pouch and I remembered what I kept inside it.
A small notebook and pen.
I'd write!I fished them out, opened the tray table, and set the book down, penning the first things that came to mind.

Why now, when Kon and I had decided that we were going to stick it out with each other?
Why now, when stuff was finally looking up?
