Daniel and I are sitting at our own table. He takes my hand.
I squeeze his hand and he squeezes mine back. Lunch might actually be... Good.
The second I think that I hear the clonk of high heels on the tiled floor. I immediately lower my head and hunch my shoulders. Daniel wraps his arms around me.
"It's okay." He whispers.
"Why are you, like,--" Insert gun snap here, "over here with Blindie?" I stand up, making my chair flip over.
"WHAT did you just call me?" I ask.
"Uuuuhhhhh..." Gum snap. "Blindie."
"Rachelle Maria Jukondura you're dead." I start to run at where I think she is, but Daniel grabs my waist and restrains me.
"I'm sorry, Rachelle. Cosette doesn't like name-calling." I sigh and give up fighting. Daniel's on the football team. There is NO WAY I'd ever break through his arms.
Gum snap. "What a baby." Gum snap.
"She's my baby. Now go away Rachelle." My body perks up. Daniel's so sweet.
He turns me around and wraps one arm around my shoulder. We sit back down and I hear the heels clonk away.
I sigh and lean against Daniel.
"Sorry." I say.
"It's not you. It's her." He says her name with such coldness and disgust that I can't help but kiss him on the cheek.
I can feel his smile, radiating throughout the whole cafeteria.
