My legs shake as I rock back and forth in the uncomfortable hospital chair outside of the Chemotherapy room.
My head spins with thoughts of Jackster.
His smile.
His laugh.
His voice.
His face.
His smell.
His happiness.
How could something so cruel happen to someone so blatantly good?
A voice startles me.
"Cosette?" A female voice. Young. My age. That leaves few options.
It could be Sally or Destiny, my coworkers. "It's me, Destiny. Where have you been?"
She doesn't know? I could've sworn I told her...
"I got in a car accident and went blind." I answered.
"Oh. I'm sorry." She says awkwardly.
"It's fine. I've learned to live with it." I say with a smile.
"That's amazing. So... Why are you here?" she asks.
"My little brother, Jack, has early traces of Leukemia." I tell her.
"You're living a hard life. But God has a reason for this. He has a reason for everything." Right. Destiny's Catholic. Strongly Catholic.
"Of course he does." I say.
"It was nice seeing you, Cossete." She says.
Oof. Seeing me? Uhh... "It was nice talking to you too." I hear the sound of her feet walking away.
The door beside me opens.
"Cosie?"
Jackster.
