My fingers fly across the keys in my favorite part in The Firebird. Thank goodness I got away from Chase and to a piano fast. I'm a walking grenade.
At any second, I could explode. Or implode. Or something. I don't even know anymore.
Neither would fare well for the people around me.
I finish and hear someone walk into the room. Startled, I stand up, whirling around. Daniel stands in the doorway, holding his bag.
"Daniel!" I choke out flying into his arms, burying my face in his chest.
"Cosette." He sighs into my hair, hugging me firmly.
"I missed you." I say.
"I missed you, too, partner." He replies. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah." I say. "My memory's a little jacked up, seeing as I don't remember much from before the accident, but other than that, I'm fine."
"That's good to hear." Daniel replies. "I'm glad to hear that you're not too bad off physically. It would hurt me if you were in pain." There's a second where we just stand in each other's presence, just blissful in the fact that we're alive and together. "Now, let's get to writing music for the school musical, yeah?"
We pull apart and walk to the piano, sitting down side by side on the bench.
"I didn't think you would make it." He says. "They said you had broken your spine. Almost no one ever heals after that. But you're a fighter. You healed!" All of a sudden he takes my face roughly in his hands, kissing me with a tender passion that can't be put into words.
I kiss him back with the same raw tenderness, tangling my hands in his hair.
He pulls back first, gasping.
"That," He growls, "Was amazing." I shiver with pleasure.
There's another pause where we just stare at each other, and I think through what I have to do.
"Let me go break things off with Chase. I don't like him and am NOT popular. I'll be back as soon as possible and we can resume." I smile saucily and kiss him again before sashaying out of the room, right out to the football field where Chase is.
"Chase!" I shout. He sees me and grins, jogging over. He reaches out to hug me and I hold out my hand, his chest colliding with it.
"What is it, babe?" He asks.
"Two things. 1) Don't call me babe, and 2) We're through." I state.
"What? Why?" He asks, his face deflating a little.
I don't say anything, but my face tells it all.
He swears under his breath, looking a little mad. "Who is he?"
"Daniel. My music partner."
"You take music?"
"No. I take choir, and during study hall and after school, like right now, he and I arrange music for the school musical.
His face twists up, looking like he just discovered something new. "You take choir?"
I sigh. "This is why we're done, Chase. You know nothing about me. Sorry. Besides, I'm sure you'll have another girlfriend soon enough." I smile.
"Can we still be friends?" He asks.
"Sure." I reply with a shrug. "See ya later, Chase."
"Bye, Cosette." He mutters, running back out to the field, looking a little defeated.
I run back to the choir room as fast as I can and Daniel scoops me up.
"Cossette, will you do me a huge honor be my girlfriend?" He asks.
"Yes." I whisper, kissing his jaw. He smiles and kisses my lips, sitting down on the piano bench with me in his lap.
