I wake up the same way I have for the past 3 months. Screaming and asking where I am. This is getting old, but I don't think it's gonna stop. Ever.
Little footsteps. Jackster.
"You're at home, Cosie." He says. I sigh and nod.
As I swing my feet out of bed, I grab my cane and walk to my closet. Feeling the fabrics of each one, I choose what I think is light skinny jeans, a grey and yellow striped t-shirt, and my white high-tops. I go into the bathroom, peeling off my sticky PJs and hopping into the shower. I've gotten better at getting ready over the past few months.
Once I'm done I hop out and dry myself off with a towel. I quickly slip my stuff on and walk out to the kitchen.
"Cereal?" My mom asks. I nod. I feel her set a bowl in front of me and a spoon in my hand. I scarf down the cereal without really tasting it and pick up my backpack, which I've started leaving on the kitchen floor next to my seat. I hear someone pull in the drive. Daniel.
"Bye mom!" I call, not waiting for Danny to come to the door. I walk outside and straight into someone's arms. "Danny?" I ask.
"No. Simeon." A deep voice says. I'm confused. Who's Simeon? I pull away quickly and dust myself off.
"Who are you?" I snap.
"I'm Daniel's cousin." He says. "Daniel's sick, so he called in to school. He can't go, so someone has to stay with him. His parents are at work, his older brother is at college, and I'm leaving for Mexico to meet my girlfriend." I nod.
"So I'm taking care of him?" I ask. He nods. Uuuuuhhhhh... A blind person taking care of a sick person... This could be interesting.
"Okay." I say with a nod. I find my way to his car and climb in the passenger seat of what I think is a Chevrolet Corvette Stingray. I gasp. "Is this hat I think it is?" I ask when I hear his door shut.
"Are you thinking that my car is a Chevrolet Corvette Stingray? Cause if so, you're right." I can feel my eyes widening.
"No!" I shout.
"Yes!" He shouts back.
"Daniel. My 18 year old boyfriend who I've been dating for 2 YEARS now, has a cousin that owns a freaking CORVETTE and he didn't tell me." Wow. He knows I love cars.
"You've been dating for two years? Nice. Do have him wrapped around your little finger?" He asks.
"No." I say. "We're an equal couple. If I ask him for a favor, he helps me and vise versa." I buckle my seatbelt. "Let's just go." I hear him buckle his seatbelt and start the engine. He stops and we get out at what I recognize as Danny's house because of the gravel. We walk to the front door and Simeon pulls it open for me. I glide in as gracefully as I can.
"Danny!" I call.
"I'm in the den!" he calls. I walk straight in, then take a left and go up his carpeted staircase to the den that's attached to his bedroom.
"Hey Danny." I say. I hear him start to get up. "Oh no, Mister. You stay on that couch. I'm coming to you." I make my way to the couch where I sit down next to his stomach. He sits up and I kiss him.
"No." He says pulling back.
"Why not?" I ask. Does he not like it when I kiss him?
"I don't want to get you sick!" he replies. Oh. I'm stupid.
"Okay. But the second you're better, I expect a make out session, okay?" he slips his arms around my waist.
"I can't wait to be better." He groans. I rest my chin under his head.
Me neither.
"Me neither." For once, I have spoken what was on my mind! Haha!
Daniel pulls me onto the couch so that we're cuddling and we stay like that the entire day, except for when I get up to force him to eat, drink, or sleep. Then I read. The day is almost over. I hear multiple cars pull into the garage. I'm currently monitoring the fact that Danny's eating. I hear him scrape his dish clean.
"I'm definitely feeling not sick anymore." He says. I laugh.
"Let's take your temperature first."
I get the thermometer and feel for his lips to stick it in his mouth. He complies and I wait for the beep. It beeps and I take it out. "What does it say?" I ask.
"98.6." He says.
"Is that the truth, Danny?" I ask.
"Okay, okay." He says. "98.5, but no one's perfect, right?" He says. I laugh.
"Okay." I say.
"I was promised a make out session?" He says. I sigh and shake my head, no.
"What? C'mon." He begs.
"I'm not making out in your den with you while your parents are home." I say.
"Then let's go somewhere else." He says.
"No." I say. "Your parents."
"My parents don't give a care! C'mon!" he takes my hands and I reluctantly follow him out to his BMW.
He drives us to somewhere.
"Where are we?" I ask.
"A nice little meadow." He says. "Actually, a grain field, but they're both equally romantic, right?" he asks. I nod.
"Yep." We get out of the car and he holds my hands. "Happy 16th birthday." He whispers to me.
"It's my birthday? Wow. Time passed quickly." He chuckles and slips his arms around my waist, slowly tugging me closer and closer. He kisses me once, softly and slowly. I kiss him back and we start moving in rhythm. We pull back, gasping for air and I feel my lips swell slightly. I smile.
"We should go back home." I say. I feel him nod.
We get in the car and drive to my house, coming from the best sick day of my life.
