Lainey Blake
I tie my lace from my work boots then get out of Dad's jeep wrangler. "Dad, where are we?" I ask Dad who is walking further ahead of me. "A place." He reply. "Why did you bring me to this if you don't tell me the place specifically?" I ask again, catching up to him. "You'll see." He looks at me at his shoulder and grins.I run to where Dad stop his tracks. "Dad! Why are we-" I stop talking when I saw what Dad is looking at. "Whoa."
"Shane! Lainey! Don't just stand and get your butts down here!" Alan yell.
Both of us chuckle and went to the dig site and Dad greets Alan with a man hug and I squeal at the sight of Ellie. "Lainey! Long time no see." I giggle. Ellie hug me tightly. "I could said the same thing about you too, Dr.Sattler." Ellie jokingly hit my shoulder. "I see Dr.Blake junior is a beautiful 15 year old now." Alan ruffles my hair. "Well kids do grow up Dr.Grant." I smirk.
My Dad, Shane Blake is a paleontologist who became famous after receiving an award for an outstanding discovery when I was 8. If your Dad is like mine, meaning I get the chance to come along with him and get to meet other paleontologist and Dad happens to be best friends with the one and only, also a paleontologist, Dr.Alan Grant along with Alan's partner, Dr.Ellie Sattler who is a paleobotanist. Ever since Mum died, Dad home schooled me so he can focus on his job and of course, me. Dad gave me an archeology tool kit for my 15th birthday this year 2 months ago.
"So, Dad what are we doing here exactly?" I tied my medium length hair into a messy bun. "Well obviously to help Alan and Ellie of course." Dad answer. "Oh, is it a herbivore or a carnivore?" I grin. "Well we did saw sharp teeth maybe a carnivore." Ellie said. "Let's go, let's go!" I pull Dad's arm to the dig site with Alan and Ellie following us from behind, chuckling.

Two hours later...
I use a toothbrush on the smaller parts of the bones and wipe the sand away. We finally saw the bones fully and I heard someone call Alan, Ellie and Dad."Dr.Grant, Dr.Sattler and Dr.Blake! We're ready to try again."
"I hate computers." Alan groans, Ellie tying a red bandanna around his neck. "The feeling is mutual." She said.
"But it helps." Dad shrugs.Following Alan, Ellie and Dad we surround the guy on the computer. "What does it do again?" Dad ask. "Well it will show us the fossil image bounced from the radar shoot. With a few years development, we don't need to dig anymore." The guy explains. As if Alan read my mind he said, "Where's the fun in that?" and high fives me. Dad and Ellie just chuckling at us.
"It's a velociraptor!" Dad gape.
"5,6 feet and if we look-" Alan stop when he touch it, the screen start fuzzy. "What did I do?"
"Dr.Grant's not computer compatible." Ellie jokes. When the computer screen is fine again, he explains the post mortem condition and how the velociraptor looks a lot like a bird. Everyone laugh. Well except me,Dad and Ellie. He shook it off and explains why and show us how the vertabrae and pubic bones are similar to birds and I heard a voice said "that looks like a 6 foot turkey to me.""Oh, boy." I heard Ellie mutters. Alan walk to the kid and explains how to velociraptor hunts and slash the kid's chest and stomach with his raptor claw. The kid just mumble "Okay."
~*~*~
"Hey, Alan if you wanted to scare the kid you could have pulled a gun on him you know." Ellie said jokingly at Alan as the four of us climb up to their trailer.
"This is why I don't want kids." Alan said.
"They're not that bad you know." Ellie said.
"And you wanted to have one of those?"
"I don't want that kid but a breed of a child that would be intriguing. I mean, what's wrong with kids?" Ellie ask. Dad and I keep listening to them, amused.
"They're noisy, they're messy, they're expensive." Alan list out. "Cheap, cheap." Ellie chants. "And they smell."
"They do not!" Ellie argue.
"Babies smell!" Alan points out.I clear my throat. "I'm right here you know."
"Lainey your not that type. Your the sweet, tidy and easy going girl. You're different. You're a what a parent could have ask for." Alan said, patting my shoulder. "Alan's right you know. I'm such a lucky Dad to have you." Dad hug me from the side making me giggle.Out of the blue, I hear whirling noises then I saw a chopper is landing down and the strong wind blew off the sands. "Get the canvas! Cover the bones!" Ellie yell and went down to help and I follow Ellie.
We cover the dig sites with canvas and Ellie told me to go to Dad and Alan. I run to Dad who is following Alan near the caravan.
We all barge in, only to meet an old man maybe in his late sixties. "What the hell are you doing?!" Dad ask, angry. The man turn to face us and pops open the champagne Alan, Ellie and Dad are saving. "We're saving that!" Alan said. "For today. I guarantee." He said, calmly. "Who in the God's name do you think you are?" Alan point his finger at the man. "John Hammond and it's so nice to finally meet you personally Dr.Grant." Mr.Hammond shake his finger and blew off the sand on his palm.
Oh my God. He's the freaking billionaire who sometimes funding Dad's and Alan's dig.
He turned to Dad and me. "You must be Dr.Blake and Lainey. I heard a lot about you two." Dad shake his hand with Mr.Hammond. "That's us and I hope good things."
"Of course, and I see that my money is in good hands and the 50 000 thousand for this year have been used for the dig, Dr.Grant."
"You're a wonderful girl I see." Mr.Hammond said, held out his hand. "Thank you." I blush, shaking his hand.
"Okay, who's the jerk?" Ellie suddenly barge in rather angrily. "Um, Mr.Hammond this is Dr.Ellie Sattler our paleobotanist." Alan introduces Ellie to him. "Ah, so you're Dr.Sattler." Mr.Hammond beams. "Did I said jerk?" Ellie laughs nervously.
"Would you like a drink?" Mr.Hammond ask the three adults, gesturing the champagne. "Yes we'd love to." Alan said. Ellie tried to help but the man refused and give us a cup. Well I got a cup of lemonade.
"Sorry for the dramatic entrance. I was in a wee bit of in a hurry. Straight to the point. I like you. The four of you. I can tell from looking at you. Its a gift. You see I brought an island near Costa Rica and I've been setting up a biological preserve with the help from Ingen for 5 years. We're going to open next year if the lawyers didn't kill me first. Do you like lawyers?" He ask.
"We don't know uh-" Alan struggle to let out the words out. "Well I don't. This one lawyer represents my investors and insisted that they want outside opinions."
"What kind of opinions?" Ellie ask. "Opinions like you people. And there's no doubt the attractions will drive the kids out of their mind. Not just the kids, everyone will."
"What are those?" Alan said bluntly.
"Smaller version ones, honey." Ellie whisper and nudge him.
"So what I'm saying is, I'm inviting you to my island to tour the theme park for the weekend. I could use a paleobotanist and a teenager as well. "
"We don't know sir because we just discover a new skeleton." Alan said, Ellie and Dad nod the their heads.
"I'll be fully funding your whole dig."
"And this is an unusual time." Dad said.
"For a further 3 years." Mr.Hammond finishes.
"What kind of theme park?" Dad ask.
"Oh its really right up your rally." Mr.Hammond smiles.
"Well, where's the plane?" Ellie said, hugging Alan and Dad hug me tightly, cheering.~*~*~
I stay outside alone, looking up the stars. I sip my hot cocoa as Dad suddenly sat down next to me. "You alright?" He ask worriedly. "Yeah, just thinking about this weekend. I mean what did they have on the island?" I rub my temples. "Don't worry its probably nothing." Dad poke me. "Come on its getting late."
