Introduction -

Life after the war hit me like a ton of bricks. As crazy as it sounds, the uprising felt like home to me. That’s all I ever knew. I was born when the uprising rocked the country of Panem. It was fourteen years ago when I was wrapped up in that dirty blue blanket that my mother cherished until this day. My cry echoing against the rubble. My mother stroking my soft brown hair and holding me in her arms. But now that the war is over… it’s so, dare I say, taboo to me. First went District Thirteen, then eight, then twelve, then eleven. The other Districts came crashing down soon after, except for two, four, and… well, my district. One. We helped the Capitol.

After the rebellion ended, the three remaining were assigned as career districts, sharing the wealth of the capitol to rebuild our cities, and President Hermes Snow and his bitch of a wife, Ava Snow, declared that each year, in reminder of the rebellion, The Hunger Games, would be assembled. Two kids from each district from the ages twelve to eighteen would have to fight to the death in a closed in arena until only one remained, broadcasted on live television in the twelve remaining districts and the Capitol. The first Hunger Games will begin five years from now and only districts one, two and four will be provided with training.

            It’s five years later.

And I’m scared for my life.
