you were both going to perform at homecoming, right before you went on stage, you cracked one of your favourite jokes.

"hey val." you say, only getting a short nod in return. "what did the vegetable say at the homecoming dance?"
Valerie sighed and shrugged. "i don't know, y/n. what did they say?" she asked, not really interested in your jokes.
"lettuce turn up the music!" you answered and started laughing at your own joke. Valerie smiled and looked at you. laughing at your contagious laughter.
